How to choose Turntable Accessories

All six turntable accessories reviewed here come from one store, Douk Audio's store at doukaudio.com (four Nobsound, one Douk Audio and one Little Bear product), at $29.99 to $69.99 as priced on October 23, 2026. They do different jobs: two record weights (the STB-01 at $32.99 and the STB-02 clamp at $29.99), a brass platter mat ($69.99), a cartridge alignment kit ($69.99), a strobe tachometer disc for checking speed ($36.99) and a box for storing up to 10 cartridge headshells ($36.99). Decide the job first, then check the fit: the weights have a 7mm (STB-01) or 7.2mm (STB-02) spindle hole, the mat a 7.3mm center hole, and the headshell box takes universal headshells only.

Weight and height are the figures to read. The STB-01 weighs 230g and stands 30mm tall; the STB-02 is 40mm tall and 460g on its spec sheet, although its listing title says 420g; the brass mat is 1.2kg and 2mm thick. The reviews warn that 460g or 1.2kg may be more than a lightweight or suspension turntable, or some motors and bearings, are built to carry, that the STB-02 may not fit under a low closed dust cover, and that the mat raises the record slightly, so arm height needs checking. The sound claims, such as lower resonance, a lower noise floor and clearer detail, are the store's; the STB-01 review notes no measured figures are given.

Douk Audio's store applies the same terms to every listing: shipping in 2-8 business days with duties, taxes and customs included in the checkout price unless noted; returns requested within 30 days of delivery and approved by Douk first, shipped back within 7 days of approval, with original shipping fees and duties not refunded; and a 24-month warranty for manufacturing defects, although an older policy page still says 1 year. None of the reviews gives a shipping fee or says who pays the return shipping.

Look elsewhere in a few cases. The R21K kit ($69.99) holds a VTA azimuth ruler, alignment protractor, stylus force gauge, five spirit levels, a record brush and a stylus brush, but no cleaning fluid, and its review says to expect to learn the procedure; it does not repair or replace a worn stylus. The strobe disc has 33.3 and 45 RPM marks only, no 78, and shows speed without correcting it. The R21J box ships empty: no cartridges, styli or tools.

Questions before you buy

Does a record weight or clamp improve sound?

The listings say so: lower resonance, a lower noise floor, steadier speed and clearer detail, in the STB-01 and STB-02 cases, and anti-static and reduced resonance for the brass mat. The reviews cannot confirm it. The STB-01 review notes the claims are qualitative and no measured figures are given, and none of the listings cites an independent measurement.

Will a heavy record weight or platter mat harm my turntable?

The reviews raise the risk without a number. The STB-02 adds 460g and the brass mat 1.2kg, and both reviews say lightweight or suspension turntables, motors and bearings may not be built to carry that load; the STB-01 weighs 230g. None of the listings states a safe limit, so confirm with your turntable's maker, and check that a 40mm-tall STB-02 clears your dust cover.

How do I check my turntable's speed with a strobe disc?

Per the Little Bear listing: place the tachometer disc on the platter, start it, switch on the strobe 5-10cm from the disc and watch the stripes for 33.3 or 45. Stable stripes mean correct speed; slow clockwise drift means the turntable runs fast and anticlockwise drift means slow. The strobe flashes at 50/60Hz mains frequency, has no 78 RPM marks and cannot correct a turntable with no speed adjustment.

What is in the cartridge alignment kit?

The R21K lists a VTA azimuth ruler, an alignment protractor, a stylus force gauge, five spirit levels (four small, one big), a record brush, a stylus brush, a record adapter, four cartridge cables, screws, a screwdriver and tweezers, in a silver box weighing 750g. Its review says full value assumes patience with protractor, azimuth and tracking-force procedure, and it includes no cleaning fluid.

What spindle size do these accessories fit?

The STB-01 has a 7mm hole, the STB-02 a 7.2mm hole (its listing says it fits most turntables) and the brass mat a 7.3mm center hole. The STB-01 review says to confirm your turntable uses a standard spindle before ordering. The R21J keeper takes universal headshells only, so check non-standard mounts first.

What are the store's return and warranty terms?

Douk Audio's store allows a return request within 30 days of delivery. Douk must approve it first, the item goes back within 7 days of approval, and original shipping fees and duties aren't refunded. The warranty is 24 months from purchase for manufacturing defects, with free repair or replacement, although an older policy page still says 1 year.
