How to choose Tube & Line Preamps
This guide covers the 14 reviews from Douk Audio's store at doukaudio.com (ten Douk Audio products and four Nobsound), priced from $39.99 to $189.99 as priced on October 23, 2026; preamps sold by HiFiGO, added on October 28, 2026, have their own reviews on this page and are not counted below. They are three different tools. Nine are tube preamps (the DAC-T1 PRO, P1, P1 PLUS, P2-FM, P2 Mini, P6 MINI, TUBE-T5C, NS-10P and TUBE-T4C), two (the L1 and L1 MINI) are line-level boosters with up to 20dB of gain and no tube, and three (VOL-3, VOL-3/V1-XLR and VOL-4) are volume controllers. A preamp sits between your sources and a power amplifier or active speakers; five listings say outright that they cannot drive passive speakers. Compare inputs first: five of the 14 add Bluetooth, three have a USB DAC input (a DAC is the chip that turns digital audio into an analog signal) and six have a headphone output.
Gain and tubes are where the listings differ. The L1 and L1 MINI list up to 20dB, adjustable; the NS-10P lists a deliberately low voltage gain of 1.5-2.0x and the TUBE-T4C 2.5x; the two passive controllers add no gain at all, and their reviews say they suit sources with strong output and amplifiers with their own gain. The tubes are named but their effect is described only in the store's words: the DAC-T1 PRO uses a JAN5654, the P2-FM 6E2 magic-eye indicators, the P2 Mini a 6186 or 6AG5 (shipped at random since 29 May 2024, per its FAQ), the P6 MINI a 6A2, the TUBE-T5C an ECC83, the NS-10P 6J1 tubes and the TUBE-T4C 6J5. Most sockets are pluggable, so tube rolling, swapping tubes to change the sound, is possible, but each listing names only certain replacements.
Douk Audio's store applies the same terms to every one of its listings: shipping in 2-8 business days with duties, taxes and customs included in the checkout price unless noted; returns requested within 30 days of delivery and approved by Douk first, shipped back within 7 days of approval, with original shipping fees and duties not refunded; and a 24-month warranty for manufacturing defects, although an older policy page still says 1 year. None of the Douk reviews gives a shipping fee or says who pays the return shipping. HiFiGO, the other store on this page, ships from China, gives 7 days to report a faulty item and charges a 30% restocking fee on later returns; each HiFiGO review spells out its terms.
Check the quirks before ordering. The L1 and L1 MINI include no power adapter and run from a phone charger or power bank through a USB-to-DC cable; the L1 MINI review advises against powering it from a computer because of noise. The VOL-4 ($69.99) is a pre-sale listing, its remote needs 2 AAA batteries that are not included, and when powered but switched off it passes the signal at full volume, so lower the volume first. The TUBE-T5C needs about 10 seconds to warm up with no audio. On the P1 PLUS, TUBE-T5C, P2 Mini and L1 the outputs play at once and cannot be controlled separately, while the P2-FM's headphone jack takes priority over its line output. XLR appears only on the V1-XLR passive controller.

Questions before you buy
Do I need a preamp if I already have an amplifier?
Only for what the preamp adds. These units feed a power amplifier or active speakers, and five Douk listings say they cannot drive passive speakers. Their pitch is extra inputs (Bluetooth, USB DAC, U-disk), tone controls, a headphone output, up to 20dB of gain on the L1 and L1 MINI, or, on the tube models, a tube stage the maker says adds warmth. None claims more speaker power.
Can I swap the tubes in these preamps?
On most, with named types only. The P2 Mini takes 6J1, 6J4, GE5654, 6AK5 and one more listed family; the NS-10P 6AK5, 6BC5, 403A/B, 5654, EF40, F95 or CV850; the TUBE-T4C 6J1, 5654, 6AK5 or EF95. The TUBE-T5C's ECC83 and its op-amp are replaceable without soldering, and the P6 MINI's 6A2 is listed as pluggable and rollable.
What is a passive volume controller?
A box that only turns the signal down, with no power supply and no gain. The VOL-3 (RCA) and V1-XLR (XLR), both $46.99 and sold separately, use ALPS potentiometers. Their reviews say they work best when the source already outputs enough level and the amplifier has gain of its own, and that poorly shielded cables will show up as noise.
Which of these preamps have a headphone output?
Among the Douk Audio store listings, six: the DAC-T1 PRO (up to 300 ohm), P1 PLUS (matches 16-600 ohms), P2-FM (50mW at 32 ohms, matches 32-200 ohms), P2 Mini, TUBE-T5C (500mW at 32 ohms) and P1 (160mW into 32 ohms, matches 32-300 ohms). The P2 Mini review calls the headphone and RCA outputs active at once, but the P2-FM's jack takes priority over its line output.
Which of them work as a USB DAC or Bluetooth receiver?
The DAC-T1 PRO, P1 PLUS and P1 take a PC-USB connection, and those three plus the P2 Mini and P6 MINI have Bluetooth. On the P1 PLUS only USB reaches 384kHz/32-bit and DSD256; its coaxial and optical inputs stop at PCM 192kHz/24-bit. The P2 Mini and P6 MINI take U-disks, not a PC-USB link, and the P1 has no optical or coaxial input.
What are the stores' return and warranty terms?
Douk Audio's store allows a return request within 30 days of delivery. Douk must approve it first, the item goes back within 7 days of approval, and original shipping fees and duties aren't refunded. The warranty is 24 months from purchase for manufacturing defects, with free repair or replacement, although an older policy page still says 1 year. HiFiGO's terms differ (7 days for faulty items, a 30% restocking fee on later returns) and are in each HiFiGO review.
