How to choose Saunas & Cold Plunges

These twelve reviews cover two different kinds of product from two stores, so decide first which one you are shopping for. Sweaty Yeti (sweatyyetisauna.com, sold by KEB Homes, LLC dba Irontown Modular in Spanish Fork, Utah) builds backyard saunas, plunge rooms and a workout room: eight models from $29,700 to $55,200. XR Cryo Plunge (xrcryoplunge.com, the store of Cryo Innovations LLC in Newport Beach, California) sells cold plunge tubs and a chiller: four listings from $3,600 to $8,500. All are starting prices as checked on October 23, 2026. Seven of the Sweaty Yeti models share an 8 x 17 foot footprint (136 square feet) and the base sauna is 8 x 9 feet, with seating listed as 4 to 6, 6 to 8 or 8 to 12 people. Our comparison of Sweaty Yeti models sets them side by side, and our comparison of cold plunges covers the tubs.

Power is the figure to settle first. Sweaty Yeti lists a 240 V circuit for its units, but the amps run from 20 to 80 across the eight models and its own documents disagree: for six of the eight, the order page or FAQ and the August 2026 owner's manual give different amps, or the page gives none. The Sauna + Plunge shows 60 A on its product page and 70 A (80 A with a mini-split) in the manual, the Sauna Max 75 A against 70 A, and the Sauna Fit 50 A against 60 A. Have an electrician confirm the figure with Sweaty Yeti before you pay the deposit. XR Cryo's manual rates its chillers for 100 to 127 V at 60 Hz and the Super Chiller at 1,170 W of input for 3,050 W of cooling, about 10 amps at 120 V, but the current pages publish no power figure for the 2025 chiller and heater.

Heat and cold are specified differently by each store. Sweaty Yeti's saunas use a HUUM electric heater with a UKU controller, which the features list gives as HUUM or equal, and the manual's heat-up time is 30 to 45 minutes; the Sauna Max adds an infrared option of 8 carbon-fiber panels for $9,000, and its cutaway shows two heaters that the written specs do not confirm. The standard plunge system, a tub, pump, filter and chiller, is made by Plunge per the manual; the Plunge Max has one tub, with a second at $9,180 extra. XR Cryo's inflatable tub measures 71 x 28 x 32 inches by the brand's graphic (one dealer lists it 25 inches wide), the acrylic tub 67 x 32 x 24 inches for users under 5 ft 9 in or 73 x 33 x 27 inches for 5 ft 9 in to 7 ft, and the window tub lists no size. Water can be set from 37 to 107F (3 to 42C), though the store quotes 38F as the lowest.

Sweaty Yeti's contract is the fine print to read. You pay a 10% deposit at checkout, fully refundable for five days only and nonrefundable after that. The balance is due within ten days of purchase (the contract) or ten business days of the deposit (its Process page), and construction starts once it is paid or financing has funded. If material or labor costs rise more than 5% during the build, the contract allows reasonable adjustments to the price, and each change order costs $250. The factory build takes about 60 to 90 days; delivery within 250 miles is included, elsewhere in the lower 48 is quoted, Alaska, Hawaii and Canada cost extra and a crane or special equipment is billed extra. The KEB Homes Limited Warranty is transferable, but its terms are available only on request, no page we read publishes them, and claims aren't handled until the final payment. Disputes go to mediation, then binding arbitration in Utah County, Utah.

XR Cryo Plunge's terms are shorter and sit on separate pages. Orders usually ship in 4 to 6 weeks depending on inventory and location, with shipping calculated at checkout. Returns must be requested in writing within 30 days of delivery, need a Return Authorization number and an undamaged unit, and you pay both the original and the return shipping, which come out of your refund; the refund policy also says sale items can't be returned, while every XR product is shown at a sale price. The current product pages state no warranty; earlier store pages and dealer listings give 1 year, with paid 2 and 3 year options. Neither the manual nor the store's pages say who should avoid cold-water immersion or for how long, so ask a doctor first if you have a health condition.

Questions before you buy

How much does a Sweaty Yeti sauna cost?

Starting prices run from $29,700 for the 8 x 9 foot Sauna to $55,200 for the Sauna Plus with a barrel plunge: Fit Studio $32,300, Plunge Max $44,400, Sauna Plus $46,400, Sauna Max $46,900, Sauna Fit $47,200 and Sauna + Plunge $51,700. Delivery is included within 250 miles. A crane, a second tub (+$9,180 on the Plunge Max), the $9,000 infrared option on the Sauna Max and a $1,045 cedar ceiling are extra.

How much power does a backyard sauna need?

Sweaty Yeti lists a 240 V circuit, with amps that differ by page: 60 A on the order page and 70 A (80 A with the mini-split) in the owner's manual for the Sauna + Plunge, 75 A against 70 A for the Sauna Max, 50 A against 60 A for the Sauna Fit, and 20 A against 40 A for the Fit Studio. The base Sauna's FAQ says 50 amps, its manual 60. Have an electrician confirm the figure with the store before you pay the deposit.

How long does it take to get a sauna from Sweaty Yeti?

The FAQ puts the factory build at about 60 to 90 days, after which the unit is set in place in a day. You pay a 10% deposit at checkout, and construction starts only once the balance is paid (due within ten days of purchase per the contract, ten business days per the Process page) or financing has funded. The contract asks you to inspect the unit before it leaves the factory; if you don't, you accept its fit and finish as delivered.

How much does a cold plunge tub cost?

XR Cryo Plunge lists the inflatable tub at $4,199 with the cooling-only Super Chiller or $4,499 with the Hot and Cold Super Chiller, the acrylic tub at $5,500 (standard, for users under 5 ft 9 in) or $6,500 (extra long, 5 ft 9 in to 7 ft), and the window tub at $8,500, or $9,150 with the water catcher step. The 2025 chiller and heater alone is $3,600, with no tub. Orders usually ship in 4 to 6 weeks, with shipping calculated at checkout.

How cold does an XR Cryo plunge get?

The XR manual lets you set the water from 37 to 107F (3 to 42C), and the store quotes 38F as the lowest. As a reference figure, the manual says the Super Chiller cools 200 liters (about 53 gallons) from 73F to 41F in about 2.8 hours, measured in a closed, insulated barrel in an 86F room. An earlier page added that the air temperature around the tub changes what you get. Heating needs the Hot and Cold Super Chiller, a $300 option on the inflatable tub.

Can I return a sauna or a cold plunge?

Sweaty Yeti's terms give a refund window only for the deposit: it is fully refundable for five days, then nonrefundable. XR Cryo takes written return requests within 30 days of delivery, with a Return Authorization number and the equipment undamaged; you pay shipping both ways, taken from the refund, and its policy excludes sale items although every XR product is shown at a sale price.
