Our verdict

The EverShine Folding rack set turns most crossbars into a two-kayak carrier: four J-bars (two pairs), four tie-down straps, and mounting hardware for $149.99 in stainless steel, the version in stock on Oct 27, 2026 (Black Steel, $129.99 with $139.99 crossed out, was sold out). The racks fold flat via a quick-release so a garaged car doesn't need them removed, foam and rubber contact points protect hulls, and the page lists a 150 lb capacity for the steel tube construction without a test method. Check your crossbars before buying — round bars are excluded, the bars need to sit at least 1.8" above the roof, and they must be at least 0.8" thick.

Why 3.7/5: Lifted by a spec table with tube size, 150 lb capacity, two pairs of fold-flat racks, foam padding, four straps and a crossbar note, plus two finishes. Held back by a sold-out Black Steel option, a stainless price above its crossed-out one, and a sale price that may bar returns.

Leader Accessories' EverShine Folding Kayak Rack is a 4-piece J-bar set — two pairs of racks — that mounts on a car's crossbars and carries up to two kayaks. It comes in black powder-coated steel at $129.99 (crossed-out $139.99, sold out on Oct 25 and Oct 27, 2026) or stainless steel at $149.99, the version in stock.

The racks are built from 22mm-diameter steel tube with 1.5mm walls and an 8.5" widening design, and the set is tested to hold up to 150 lbs with loads up to 8 feet long. The folding mechanism uses an ergonomic quick-release: the bars fold flat when not in use, so the vehicle keeps its garage clearance without the racks being removed. Foam padding and rubber pedals keep kayaks, canoes, surfboards, or SUPs from rubbing or scratching, and the set also works for ski and snowboards. The package includes the four racks, four tie-down straps, a set of mounting accessories, and assembly instructions.

Compatibility requires a quick measurement first: the racks fit square, factory, and aerodynamic crossbars but not round bars, the crossbar must sit at least 1.8" above the roof, and the bar itself must be at least 0.8" thick. On the logistics side, shipping covers the 48 continental US only — Alaska, Hawaii, PO Boxes, APO/FPO, and international orders are excluded. At $149.99 the order ships free (free shipping starts at $70, otherwise a flat $10), with 1-2 business days of processing and 2-6 in transit. Returns run 30 days, but since the rack is discounted, it's a sale item — and sale items aren't returnable.

How it compares

Among the four rack reviews this is the only one with a choice of finishes. Like for like, the EverShine Kayak Rack (100 lb) is the same 4-rack pack with 4 straps in black alloy steel, but with a 19mm tube, a 1.0mm wall and a 100 lb figure. At $109.99 (crossed-out $124.99, in stock on Oct 25, 2026) it is $20.00 below this set's Black Steel option ($129.99) and $40.00 below the Stainless Steel one ($149.99). The Kayak Rack J-Bar Roof Mount also lists 2 pair of J bars and 4 straps, at $91.99 (crossed-out $104.99, sold out), which is $38.00 below the Black Steel option. It gives 250 lbs but no tube size, color or mention of folding, and it asks for a crossbar at least 0.5" high where this page asks for 0.8" thick.

The 2-in-1 Folding Kayak Rack J Bar repeats this page's feature wording at $89.99 (crossed-out $129.99, sold out), but it lists only '1 Set' and no crossbar limits. Its price therefore cannot be set against this set's until its rack count is known. Who suits what: this set suits two kayaks and a rack that folds flat. Take Stainless Steel for now, since Black Steel was sold out on Oct 25, 2026. The 100 lb set suits lighter loads at a lower price, and the 250 lb rack is worth considering only if it returns to stock with a tube size.

Shipping, returns and warranty

Read on Oct 25, 2026 from the store's shipping policy, refund policy and terms of service. Leader Accessories is both the maker and the store, so there is no separate maker warranty page to check against.

  • Where it ships: the 48 continental United States only. No PO boxes and no military addresses (APO, FPO). Confirm the address before ordering, because later changes may cost extra.
  • Shipping fee: free on orders of $70 or more, otherwise $10. The policy adds that the store usually runs promotions that make shipping free on most items, without saying which.
  • Timing: 1 to 2 business days to process, then 2 to 6 business days in transit, by USPS, UPS or another carrier, with tracking by email. Customized or monogrammed items take 4 or more working days to process. Report a shipping problem within 30 days of ordering.
  • Return window: 30 days after you receive the item to request a return or exchange. Contact the store first for the return address; the item goes back in its original packaging and in a state that allows resale.
  • Who pays return shipping: the store sends a pre-paid label once it accepts a return, which its policy ties to items that arrive defective, incorrect or incomplete (send the order number, photos and videos). For a return for personal reasons, return freight is at your expense. If the store ships the wrong item, it reimburses the return shipping fee when it receives the item back.
  • Refunds: to the original payment method after the warehouse inspects the return; the policy says the credit can take up to 7 to 10 more business days. If the value of the products left on the order is under $30, a $10 shipping fee is deducted from the refund; the policy does not say whether that applies to a one-item order returned in full.
  • Exchanges and cancellations: an exchange is possible only within 24 hours of ordering, before the package ships, and only if the item is in stock. An order that has been processed cannot be canceled.
  • Not returnable: sale items and gift cards, custom or personalized products, perishables, personal care goods and hazardous materials. The policy does not define "sale items".
  • Warranty: none stated. The shipping and refund policies do not mention one, the store's /pages/warranty address returned a 404 page on Oct 25, 2026, and section 13 of the terms of service provides products "as is", without warranties of durability or fitness for a particular purpose, except as the store expressly states.
  • Prices and errors: the terms let the store change prices without notice and correct errors in descriptions, prices or shipping charges, including by canceling an order after it is placed.
  • Contact: [email protected] is the only contact the policies give; the store's /pages/contact and FAQ addresses returned 404 pages.

Where the pages disagree

  • Shipping speed: the product page banner says "Free Same-Day Shipping over $70". The shipping policy lists 1 to 2 business days of processing before the 2 to 6 day delivery window, and sets the free-shipping line at "greater or equal to $70".
  • Exchanges: the banner says "30-Day Easy Return & Exchange". The refund policy gives 30 days to request a return but allows an exchange only within 24 hours of ordering and before shipment.
  • Guarantee wording: the refund page is headed "30-Day Money-Back Guarantee", but the text under it covers defective, incorrect or incomplete items and says returns for personal reasons are at your expense.

For this product, the review's $149.99 is the Stainless Steel option, the one in stock, above the $70 free-shipping line; on the Black Steel option ($129.99) the page crosses out $139.99, so that option may be a "sale item" the refund policy will not take back (the policy does not define the term); Black Steel was sold out on Oct 25, 2026, while Stainless Steel ($149.99, shown with a lower $139.99 beside it) was in stock.

What we liked

  • Folds flat with a quick-release when not in use — no need to remove for garage clearance
  • Carries two kayaks, and the set includes 4 tie-down straps
  • Foam padding and rubber pedals protect hulls from scratches
  • 150 lb tested capacity with an 8.5" widening design
  • Black powder-coated and stainless steel variants resist weather

Worth noting

  • Ships only within the 48 continental US — no Alaska, Hawaii, or international
  • Black Steel shows $139.99 crossed out to $129.99 but was sold out, and sale items are non-returnable
  • Won't fit round crossbars, and needs crossbars at least 1.8" above the roof and 0.8" thick

Questions before you buy

How many kayaks does it carry?

The set includes 4 racks (2 pairs) for holding 2 kayaks, with 4 tie-down straps.

Do the racks have to be removed to park in a garage?

No — they fold flat with a quick-release, giving better clearance while still mounted.

Will it fit my crossbars?

It fits square, factory, and aerodynamic crossbars but not round bars; the crossbar should sit at least 1.8" above the roof and be at least 0.8" thick.

What's the weight limit?

150 lbs tested, per the listing.

From the store

What we couldn’t verify

  • $149.99 is the Stainless Steel option the page opens on, in stock on Oct 25 and Oct 27, 2026; Black Steel (SKU 103481) is $129.99 and was sold out on both dates.
  • The Stainless Steel option shows $139.99 beside its $149.99 price and the page prints 'Save $-10', so that figure is not a discount; the review's sale wording fits the Black Steel option only.
  • Finish: the bullet says 'Black Powder-Coated Steel' for all racks, while the spec table lists stainless steel for the Silver Gray option; the page does not say whether the stainless racks are coated.
  • The 150 lb figure, 'heavy duty', 'resist all weather condition' and 'rust prevention' are page claims; no test method, rating or report is shown, and '8 Ft long' sits beside the weight without a definition.
  • Fit: the spec table says square crossbars; the bullets add factory and aerodynamic; the note says most factory or aftermarket square, oval or flat bars. 'Universal fit' is a claim; no vehicle list is given.
  • The page shows 4.7 / 5.0 based on 107 reviews in the store's own widget; those reviews were not read and how the store collects them is not stated.
  • The page gives no rack weight or overall rack dimensions, and does not say whether 150 lbs is per pair or for the whole set.
  • The review's text treats the crossed-out $139.99 as making the Black Steel rack a non-returnable sale item; the refund policy excludes 'sale items' without defining them, so that is a reading, not a stated rule.
