Our verdict

A fit for buyers who want a USB DAC with XLR and RCA outputs, MQA decoding and a Bluetooth input at $728.20, and who accept spec figures read from pictures. Look elsewhere if you need a headphone output, which the panel labels in the pictures read do not name, an in-the-box list, or figures from an independent test. The main caveat is that its spec figures are read from pictures on the page; no independent test was checked for this review.

Why 3.3/5: A page with no specification list as text, whose figures sit in pictures, holds it back, as do the store's own terms that contradict each other and the fact that no independent test was checked for this review: every spec figure is the store's own.

The SMSL D400 Pro is a USB DAC whose title and pictures name AK4499EX and AK4191EQ chips, and it is listed at $728.20 in silver or black. The pictured spec table lists USB, optical, coaxial, I2S, Bluetooth and AES inputs, RCA and XLR outputs, USB PCM 44.1 ~ 768kHz and XLR THD+N of 0.00006%. Audio Precision screenshots on the page print THD+N of 0.000062%. The page's description is pictures only, so every spec figure here comes from them.

Options and pricing

Two options are listed, D400 Pro-Silver and D400 Pro-Black, both at $728.20 and orderable when read. The pictured hero panel says it is equipped with a remote control, and a picture shows a remote labelled S.M.S.L RC-8C. The pictures read for this review give no in-the-box list.

How it compares

The SMSL D400 MK2 AK4191+AK4499EX Desktop DAC is $649 against $728.20 here and is named for AK4191+AK4499EX as a desktop DAC. The TOPPING D70Pro SABRE DAC ES9039SPRO XU316 Bluetooth 5.1 LDAC Aptx-Adaptive HiFi costs $699 and its name lists ES9039SPRO, Bluetooth 5.1, LDAC and Aptx-Adaptive. The D400 Pro suits buyers who want the AK4499EX and AK4191EQ pair with XLR and RCA outputs; the MK2 suits a smaller budget and the D70Pro a different chip.

Shipping, returns and warranty

HiFiGO sells from hifigo.com and says every order leaves its warehouse in China, usually 1-3 business days after it is placed, and says its delivery times are estimates, not promises. Its shipping policy gives the United States 1-2 weeks (about 10 days on average) by Priority and 6-10 days by Premium, both with duties and taxes prepaid by the store; Canada 2-3 weeks; the United Kingdom 1-2 weeks; and Australia 10-15 days. Express couriers (DHL, UPS, FedEx) take 3-7 days, but then the buyer pays any duties and taxes. No shipping page names New Zealand, PO boxes are not accepted, and the free-shipping thresholds differ between the store's own pages, so check the cart. One of its two shipping pages adds that a lost parcel on an order above $50 gets only a 50% refund. A US buyer reported a $40 tariff charge in August 2025, after which HiFiGO said it had added a customs notice at checkout.

Read the return terms before you order. The homepage advertises 7-day returns. Both of HiFiGO's policy pages offer a 7-day dead-on-arrival cover (a replacement or a full refund, with the return postage refunded) and also describe 30-day returns, but a request made 7 to 30 days after delivery loses 30% of the MSRP as a restocking fee (10% more if the packaging is incomplete), plus shipping both ways and duties, and the FAQ on the same pages says there is no refund or exchange once 7 days have passed. One version recommends reselling an opened product locally. Custom IEMs and custom cables cannot be returned, no return address is published, and buyers describe sending items back to China.

HiFiGO's warranty runs one year from the order date for parts and labor; its policy names desktop DACs and amps, IEMs and dongles at one year and gives cables and adapters three months. HiFiGO decides between repair and replacement, the buyer pays the shipping, and faulty items go back for service, not for a refund. Claims go to [email protected], the only contact the store lists: its pages name no company, street address or phone, and its terms are governed by the laws of China.

On Trustpilot, HiFiGO had 4.6 out of 5 from 378 reviews when we checked on 2026-10-28 (91% five-star, 5% one-star), and it had replied to about 75% of negative reviews; Trustpilot notes the store has not invited customers to review recently. The one-star reviews mostly concern the short return window and the deductions on returns, items listed in stock that turned out back-ordered, slow email support and a tariff charge on a US delivery in 2025. HiFiGO says its products are genuine and come in the brands' retail packaging; it does not claim to be an authorized dealer.

  • The pictured spec table gives XLR THD+N of 0.00006% (-124dB) and RCA 0.00008% (-121dB); Audio Precision screenshots on the page print THD+N of 0.000062%
  • The pictured spec table lists USB and I2S rates as PCM 44.1 ~ 768kHz and DSD 2.8224 ~ 22.5792MHz, with optical and coaxial separate at PCM 44.1 ~ 192kHz
  • The pictured spec table gives size (254x189x46mm), weight (1.9kg/4.18lbs) and power consumption (under 10W)
  • The pictured hero panel lists up to 7 digital filter modes for PCM signals, a remote control and user firmware upgrades

Worth noting

  • The page's description is pictures only, so every spec figure comes from pictures
  • The pictures read for this review give no in-the-box list, and the panel labels among them name no headphone output
  • The frequency-response and IMD graphs in the Audio Precision screenshots carry no printed figures
  • The pictured spec table's Windows line reads 'needs drive' as printed, while Mac OSX and Linux are listed as driveless

  • Audio Precision screenshots print THD+N of 0.000062% and dynamic range of 132.266dB and 132.411dB, but the pictures read do not say which output was measured, and no independent test was checked for this review.
