Our verdict

Suits a backyard or campsite group that has three anchor points and wants a large sun shade: the page lists 414sqft / 38.5sqm of cover, a 10lbs / 4kg unit weight and a price of $599. Look elsewhere if you need dependable rain cover, since the standard fabric is uncoated and the waterproof version has no price shown, or if you want a canopy smaller than 23ft / 7m across. The main caveat is that hammock compatibility is described loosely, with no model list.

Best for
A backyard or campsite group that wants a 23ft / 7m wide sun shade hung from three anchor points.
Skip if
You need real rain cover, because the standard canopy is uncoated 70D polyester and the waterproof version has no price shown.

Why 3.8/5: Lifted by a full spec sheet stating capacity, weight, size and fabric; held back by the absence of any independent test of this exact canopy.

The Roof Canopy XL is a parachute-style sun shade that the listing says hangs between three anchor points and can be used on its own or as a roof over Trillium XL Giant Hammocks. The spec sheet gives a covered area of 414sqft / 38.5sqm, a canopy 23ft / 7m in diameter, a 10lbs / 4kg unit weight and a 2 Season label. It is priced at $599 as a single option, and the page says it is made to order.

Options and pricing

There is one version at one price, $599, and the page shows no size choices; the spec sheet gives the colour as white with green trim. The box holds the canopy, 3 x 26mm x 5m polyester straps with 3 x 1.2-tonne rated ratchets, 4 extendable aluminium poles, 12 x 2m nylon guide lines, 12 x yellow giant pegs, a rubber insert and a mesh draw-string bag. The page adds that it is made to order and can be made in a fully waterproof version, but it shows no price for that version. No out-of-stock mark appeared when read.

How it compares

The Roof Canopy XL lists $599 as a stand-alone shade with a 2 Season label and a 10lbs / 4kg unit weight. The Trilogy 6-Person Centre Canopy lists $399 and, per its spec line, covers the central part of the Trilogy 6-Person. The RoofKit lists $349 with Seasons: 3 and a unit weight of 2.9kg / 6.4lbs, and the Walls Triple Pack (Zipped) lists $199 for a set of 3 x 5000HH walls. None of the three spec lines gives a covered area.

Shipping, returns and warranty

Shipping is free on orders over $199 sent from the US (lower 48) and EU countries; for Canada, the UK, Australia and New Zealand the page says its rates are kept as low as it can and gives a rough guide of $10 for most accessories and $20 for heavier items inside the US mainland. Average delivery is 3 to 5 working days in the US and EU and 7 to 10 days for the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. PO Box addresses are refused. The page says no extra taxes or duties apply to purchases from the US, EU, Canada, Australia or the UK, optional cover from Route can be added at checkout, and free shipping covers the first delivery attempt only; stack and accessory parts can come from different warehouses and arrive in separate packages. Returns: unused, unopened products in their original packaging can go back within 30 days of receipt, and opened or tested products can too, with a restocking fee the page gives as $20 for an unopened box and $50 for a used product (another line on the same page says $30 for all non-warranty returns). You pay return shipping on opened products unless they are defective or were sent wrongly, pre-loved and clearance sales are final, Canadian returns go to a US return centre with duties paid, and EU returns that are not warranty cases go to the UK. Warranty: products bought on tentsile.com after January 2025 carry a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects when used as the manuals say; straps and ratchets are covered for 5 years and a rainfly is meant to be replaced about every 3 years. The exclusions include poles and pegs, wear and tear, UV degradation (fabric rated for 1,500 hours for black mesh, 2,500 hours for green fabric and 3,500 hours for Safari fabric), snow load over 1 inch, high winds and products bought from third parties. Orders from $35 to $2,000 can be split into four payments with Zip, ClearPay, PayPal or Afterpay.

Before you buy

Tentsile's page header says "Rated 4.5/5" with "1100+ reviews" and "120,000+ Happy Customers"; these are the store's own figures and were not checked. Independent coverage we could open is thin: a hands-on review of the Connect by TechGadgetsCanada (March 2024, about 8 set-ups and 4 to 5 nights) found a steep learning curve, workable trees at only about half of its stops and one cold night, and a Wilderness Times write-up of the Stingray summarises specs and owner feedback without showing any hands-on testing. Tentsile's own pages set limits that matter, for example a recommended set-up height of 1.2m / 4ft on its Trilogy page, a 1 inch snow-load limit in its warranty terms and an FAQ warning that tension loads can reach 15kN, so only healthy trees should be used. The store also warns about copycat sites, and its returns and warranty terms apply to purchases made on tentsile.com.

What we liked

  • Spec sheet gives a 10lbs / 4kg unit weight and a 37.5 x 6 x 6in / 96 x 13 x 13cm packed size
  • Covers 414sqft / 38.5sqm, and the page says it shades up to 20 people
  • Comes with its own 3 x 26mm x 5m polyester straps and 3 x 1.2-tonne rated ratchets, so the page says it can be used without a hammock
  • Fabric is stated: 70D uncoated polyester, with a 3,000 hours UV rating and SPF 20 per the page
  • Box contents are itemized, including 4 extendable aluminium poles and 12 x yellow giant pegs

Worth noting

  • Lists at $599, above the RoofKit at $349 and the Trilogy 6-Person Centre Canopy at $399 among the accessories shown
  • The standard fabric is uncoated 70D polyester; the page describes fair weather protection and shelter only from light rain, with a fully waterproof version offered made to order
  • It hangs from three anchor points and the page describes attaching it directly to trees, so three suitable trees are the starting point

Questions before you buy

How much area does the Roof Canopy XL cover?

The page gives a covered area of 414sqft / 38.5sqm on a canopy 23ft / 7m in diameter, and says it shades up to 20 people. The spec sheet labels it 2 Season and lists a 10lbs / 4kg unit weight.

Does it work with Tentsile hammocks?

The page says it is compatible with all Giant Hammocks and can act as a canopy roof for Trillium XL Giant Hammocks. It also says the canopy can be used independently because it attaches directly to the trees with its own ratchet system. No model-by-model list is given.

What comes in the box?

1 x Roof Canopy XL, 12 x 2m nylon guide lines, 12 x yellow giant pegs, 4 x extendable aluminium poles, 1 x rubber insert, 3 x 26mm x 5m polyester straps (orange) with a forged steel ring in the centre, 3 x 1.2-tonne rated ratchets and 1 x mesh draw-string bag.

Can I return it if I change my mind?

The returns page gives 30 days from receipt for unused, unopened products in their original packaging, and opened or tested products can also go back within 30 days minus a restocking fee it gives as $20 for an unopened box and $50 for used items (another line says $30 for non-warranty returns). You pay return shipping on opened products unless they are defective or were sent wrongly. Pre-loved and clearance sales are final.

What does the warranty cover?

The warranty page says products bought on tentsile.com after January 2025 carry a lifetime warranty on manufacturing defects when used as the manuals say, with straps and ratchets covered for 5 years. It excludes poles and pegs, wear and tear, UV degradation, snow load over 1 inch and products bought from third parties. A rainfly should be replaced about every 3 years.

How long does delivery take?

The shipping page says average delivery is 3 to 5 working days in the US and EU and 7 to 10 days for the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, with free shipping over $199 from the US (lower 48) and EU. Some stack and accessory parts can ship from different warehouses and arrive separately.

Can I pay in instalments?

The Buy Now Pay Later page lists Zip, ClearPay, PayPal and Afterpay, which split an order of $35 to $2,000 into four payments; the Zip example says four instalments over 6 weeks with no interest, though the card issuer may charge fees.

What we couldn’t verify

  • The page says the canopy is compatible with all Giant Hammocks in one place and names the Trillium XL Giant Hammocks in another, with no model-by-model list.
  • A fully waterproof version is mentioned as made to order, but no price, fabric or spec for it is given.
  • The page claims the canopy can prolong a giant hammock's life by up to three times; no test or basis for that figure is given.
  • Independent testing of this exact product: none found; the outside coverage located covers the Connect (hands-on, 2024) and the Stingray (specs summary).
  • "Rated 4.5/5, 1100+ reviews" and "120,000+ Happy Customers" are the store's own page-header claims, not checked.
  • The returns page gives a $50 restocking fee for used products and a $30 fee for non-warranty returns in different places.
  • The spec numbers come from the spec sheet image on the product page, read by hand on 20 October 2026.
