Our verdict

The Nobsound NS-05P PRO is a clean fix for the RCA-meets-XLR problem. Its fully differential design delivers a true balanced signal when converting RCA to XLR, and it runs two independent paths simultaneously, each with its own volume knob for level matching — a neat way to drop hum and ground-loop noise between hi-fi and pro gear for $59.99. Plan your cabling carefully and budget a DC 5V supply, since the listing does not state one is included.

Best for
Anyone bridging RCA hi-fi gear with balanced XLR equipment — or chasing hum and ground-loop noise out of a mixed setup
Skip if
You only need RCA-to-RCA or XLR-to-XLR, or you want a passive adapter with no power supply requirement

Why 3.7/5: Lifted by a powered, fully differential converter with printed response, noise and impedance figures, two independent volume paths and a compact aluminum case for $59.99. Held back by no power adapter in the box, unexplained THD claims and one-to-one connections only.

The Nobsound NS-05P PRO is a compact audio converter priced at $59.99. It translates between unbalanced RCA and balanced XLR connections — in both directions — to bridge consumer hi-fi components with professional audio gear such as mixers, audio interfaces, active studio monitors, power amplifiers and DACs.

Inside is a fully differential circuit, and the FAQ confirms the RCA-to-XLR direction produces a true balanced output. That is the core of the pitch: upgrading an RCA signal to a balanced XLR link eliminates unwanted electrical hum, buzz and ground-loop noise that can contaminate a system, for a cleaner, more detailed result.

The two signal paths are independent and can operate at the same time without interference, which means you can run an RCA-to-XLR conversion and an XLR-to-RCA conversion simultaneously. Each path has its own volume knob, acting as a mini-preamp for precise level matching. Gain differs by direction: at maximum, XLR-to-RCA provides up to +5dB while RCA-to-XLR provides 0dB. The compact aluminum chassis provides shielding against external interference.

Two setup notes from the maker: as an active converter it requires a DC 5V supply rated at least 1A to work at all, and the ports must be wired correctly — the left half is RCA input to XLR output and the right half is XLR input to RCA output. It does not perform RCA-to-RCA or XLR-to-XLR conversion, and incorrect connections result in no output.

How it compares

At $59.99 the NS-05P PRO costs the same as the two Little Bear boxes but does a different job. The Little Bear MC3 3-In-3-Out XLR/RCA Selector review and the Little Bear MC103 PRO XLR Passive Selector review are passive selectors that need no power: the MC3 routes two stereo XLR pairs and one RCA pair each way, and the MC103 PRO routes three XLR connections to one, or one to three. Neither page lists a frequency response, noise or impedance figure.

The NS-05P PRO has no source or amplifier selection at all, and it needs DC 5V at 1A or more, but it is the only one of the three with a printed 20Hz-20kHz response, THD+N of 0.008% and SNR of 89dB or better, and it gives 5dB of gain in XLR-to-RCA mode against 0dB in the other direction, with a volume knob on each path. It also has the smallest footprint and the lowest weight: 155 x 70 x 42mm and 420g, against 150 x 105 x 68mm and 485g for the MC3 and 148 x 105 x 69mm and 470g for the MC103 PRO. Choose the NS-05P PRO to bridge one RCA component and one XLR component and set the levels; choose the MC3 or MC103 PRO to switch between several sources or amplifiers.

Shipping, returns and warranty

  • Shipping: Douk Audio's current shipping page says orders are generally processed no later than the next business day and arrive in 2-8 business days, with duties, taxes and customs fees included in the checkout price unless noted otherwise.
  • Older shipping terms are still online: airmail at 10-25 days for parcels under 2 kg, DHL, UPS or FedEx at 5-8 days above that, and a line saying the store is not responsible for import duties. Check the delivery estimate and any duties at checkout.
  • Returns: ask within 30 days of delivery and wait for approval before sending anything; an approved return has to ship within 7 days. Items need all packaging and accessories and no excessive wear, or the store can refuse them or refund part of the price. Refunds go to the original payment method after inspection.
  • Not refunded: original and expedited shipping, duties, taxes and customs charges, unless the law requires it or the store made the error. The return page does not say who pays return postage, and the older refund page excludes mistaken orders and change-of-mind returns from free after-sale service.
  • Warranty: 24 months from purchase for manufacturing defects, with free repair, a replacement unit and free shipping both ways for covered repairs. Drops, liquid, DIY repairs, lightning, extreme temperatures and misuse are excluded (partial fees may apply), and damage from weak packing on the way back may not be covered. The older refund page still says 1 year.
  • Seller: the site is run by Shenzhen Anba Technology Co., Ltd (Shenzhen, China) and HONGKONG LONGSHENG Import and Export Trading Co., Limited (Hong Kong); support is by email at [email protected]. These terms cover orders placed on doukaudio.com; other sellers apply their own.

For this product, the page has a 'Shipping to' selector (US, UK, EU, AU, Other) and shows Free Shipping, 2-8 Days Arrival, 30-Day Return and 2-Year Warranty badges near the price.

What we liked

  • Solves the classic mismatch of wiring consumer RCA gear to balanced XLR equipment, in either direction
  • True balanced, fully differential RCA-to-XLR conversion that targets hum, buzz and ground-loop noise
  • The two paths are fully independent and can run at the same time without interference
  • Each path has its own volume knob, doubling as a mini-preamp for level matching between components
  • Solid aluminum chassis provides shielding while fitting on a desk

Worth noting

  • It is an active converter that needs a DC 5V supply of at least 1A, and the listing does not state that a power adapter is included
  • It supports only RCA-to-XLR and XLR-to-RCA — RCA-to-RCA or XLR-to-XLR hookups are not supported and produce no signal
  • Output level differs between modes (up to +5dB versus 0dB), so levels shift when you switch direction

Questions before you buy

Is the RCA-to-XLR output truly balanced?

Yes. The NS-05P PRO uses a fully differential design that delivers a true balanced signal when converting from RCA to XLR, which is the basis for its hum and ground-loop-noise rejection.

Can both conversion directions run at once?

Yes. The two signal paths are fully independent and can operate simultaneously without interfering with each other, each with its own volume knob for level matching.

Why do the two modes sound different in level?

At maximum volume, XLR-to-RCA mode provides up to +5dB gain while RCA-to-XLR mode provides 0dB, so the XLR-to-RCA output is louder when the knob is fully up.

What are the shipping and warranty terms?

Douk Audio ships to nearly 200 countries from several warehouses; its shipping page lists 2-8 business days for delivery, with duties, taxes and customs fees included in the checkout price unless noted. Its warranty page covers manufacturing defects for 24 months from purchase.

What we couldn’t verify

  • THD+N 0.008%, THD 0.00007% and SNR 89dB or better are printed with no test level, bandwidth or load; the THD figure is far below the THD+N figure and the page does not explain the gap.
  • The page says the circuit 'eliminates' hum, buzz and ground-loop noise, but its FAQ says to wire the unit's GND to a real earth ground or another device's chassis if hum appears, and to contact the store if it persists.
  • The page lists a USB Type-C input and a USB cable in the box but no power adapter; DC 5V at 1A or more is the only supply rating it gives.
  • The RCA output level is printed '2Vms (max)' and the pound weights as '0.921b' and '1.321b'; the metric figures are 420g and 600g. The page gives no XLR output level.
