Our verdict

Listeners who want a top-loading CD player with headphone and RCA outputs and a specification section they can read are the likely buyers of the EC3 at $599. Look elsewhere if you need the 220V label explained, a stated jack size or a Bluetooth codec list. The figures are still the store's own.

Why 3.6/5: Lifted by a specification section with figures on the page; held back by the store's own terms contradicting each other and by every figure being the store's own with no independent test checked for this review.

Top-loading with a Philips CD80 drive and a Sanyo HD850 laser head, the SHANLING EC3 is listed at $599 in white or black. The page lists an ESS ES9219C DAC chip, an LTA8092 op-amp, a headphone output, an RCA line-out, optical and coaxial digital outputs and Bluetooth V5.0 for input. Its specification section gives 20mW (low gain) and 70mW (high gain) at 32Ω on the headphone output, a weight of 2.4Kg and a 15W power drain.

Options and pricing

Two options are listed, EC3-White (220V) and EC3-Black (220V), both at $599 and both orderable when the page was read. The 220V label sits in both option names; the page text does not explain it or say which mains supply the player accepts, beyond a 15W power drain figure. No box contents are listed in the page text.

How it compares

The SMSL PL200 MK2 / MK II ESS ES9039Q2M CD Player is the same $599 and is described as an all-in-one CD player, DAC and headphone amplifier. The SMSL PL200T MQA-CD Transport is $499 and is described around digital interface functions. The DUNU CONCEPT R R2R Portable CD Player costs $749.99 and names an R2R DAC. The EC3 suits buyers who want a top-loading Philips-drive player with a stated headphone figure of 70mW (high gain) at 32Ω.

Shipping, returns and warranty

HiFiGO sells from hifigo.com and says every order leaves its warehouse in China, usually 1-3 business days after it is placed, and says its delivery times are estimates, not promises. Its shipping policy gives the United States 1-2 weeks (about 10 days on average) by Priority and 6-10 days by Premium, both with duties and taxes prepaid by the store; Canada 2-3 weeks; the United Kingdom 1-2 weeks; and Australia 10-15 days. Express couriers (DHL, UPS, FedEx) take 3-7 days, but then the buyer pays any duties and taxes. No shipping page names New Zealand, PO boxes are not accepted, and the free-shipping thresholds differ between the store's own pages, so check the cart. One of its two shipping pages adds that a lost parcel on an order above $50 gets only a 50% refund. A US buyer reported a $40 tariff charge in August 2025, after which HiFiGO said it had added a customs notice at checkout.

Read the return terms before you order. The homepage advertises 7-day returns. Both of HiFiGO's policy pages offer a 7-day dead-on-arrival cover (a replacement or a full refund, with the return postage refunded) and also describe 30-day returns, but a request made 7 to 30 days after delivery loses 30% of the MSRP as a restocking fee (10% more if the packaging is incomplete), plus shipping both ways and duties, and the FAQ on the same pages says there is no refund or exchange once 7 days have passed. One version recommends reselling an opened product locally. Custom IEMs and custom cables cannot be returned, no return address is published, and buyers describe sending items back to China.

HiFiGO's warranty runs one year from the order date for parts and labor; its policy names desktop DACs and amps, IEMs and dongles at one year and gives cables and adapters three months. HiFiGO decides between repair and replacement, the buyer pays the shipping, and faulty items go back for service, not for a refund. Claims go to [email protected], the only contact the store lists: its pages name no company, street address or phone, and its terms are governed by the laws of China.

On Trustpilot, HiFiGO had 4.6 out of 5 from 378 reviews when we checked on 2026-10-28 (91% five-star, 5% one-star), and it had replied to about 75% of negative reviews; Trustpilot notes the store has not invited customers to review recently. The one-star reviews mostly concern the short return window and the deductions on returns, items listed in stock that turned out back-ordered, slow email support and a tariff charge on a US delivery in 2025. HiFiGO says its products are genuine and come in the brands' retail packaging; it does not claim to be an authorized dealer.

What we liked

  • A specification section with output figures for both the RCA output and the headphone output
  • Headphone power of 20mW (low gain) and 70mW (high gain) at 32Ω listed, with the load stated
  • RCA line-out with a 2.3V output level, 116dB SNR and distortion below 0.001%, per the page
  • Top-loading Philips CD80 drive with a Sanyo HD850 laser head, plus optical and coaxial digital outputs
  • Plays from a USB drive (up to 32-Bit/384kHz PCM) and takes Bluetooth V5.0 input
  • Weight (2.4Kg), size (25.5x18.8x6.8cm) and power drain (15W) are stated

Worth noting

  • Both options carry a 220V label that the page text does not explain
  • The page text names a headphone output but not its jack size or whether it is balanced
  • Bluetooth is listed for signal input, with no codec list
  • The laser maker is spelled Sanyo in the feature list and Sanya in the drive section of the text
  • The page text lists no supported disc formats

Questions before you buy

What does its RCA output specification say?

How big is the EC3 and what does it weigh?

Where does HiFiGO ship from, and how long does it take?

The shipping policy gives 1-2 weeks to the US by Priority (6-10 days by Premium), both with duties and taxes prepaid, 2-3 weeks to Canada, 1-2 weeks to the UK and 10-15 days to Australia. Express couriers take 3-7 days, but the buyer pays any duties.

HiFiGO gives 7 days to report an item that arrives dead, damaged or wrong. What we couldn’t verify

  • Both options are labeled 220V and the page text does not say what mains supply the player accepts.
  • The page text names a headphone output without its jack size or balance, and lists Bluetooth V5.0 for input without a codec list.
  • The laser maker appears as Sanyo in the features and Sanya in the drive section of the text; claims such as error-free CD reading and noise-free background come with no measurement.
  • HiFiGO's policy pages contradict each other: 30-day returns with a 30% restocking fee in one place, no refund or exchange after 7 days in the FAQ.
  • HiFiGO's pages name no company, street address or phone number; the only contact given is [email protected].
