Our verdict

The Sparkos Labs SS3602 is an $89.99 discrete dual op-amp that drops into any DIP8 socket to replace IC op-amps like the NE5532, OPA2604 or LME49720. It is a true dual discrete design with a Class A biased output stage, 140dB open-loop gain with two-pole compensation and input offset typically under 250uV, aimed at DAC output stages, preamps and buffers. Being discrete, it stands about 10.5mm above the board, so check clearance, count your sockets, and note that installation damage is not warrantied.

Best for
DIYers and upgraders who want a drop-in discrete replacement for IC op-amps in a DAC output stage, preamp or buffer.
Skip if
Your device has little clearance above the socket, you need a matched pair and only ordered one, or you want a factory-warrantied modification.

Why 3.6/5: Lifted by a clear parameter list (gain, offset, Class A output, size, pins) and a socket in the box, at $89.99. Held back by no supply range or current draw, no noise or distortion figures and 'measurable gains' claims with nothing measured.

The Sparkos Labs SS3602 is a discrete dual operational amplifier priced at $89.99, sold as a single unit with a DIP8 socket in the box. It is an upgrade component for listeners and builders who want to replace standard IC op-amps in amplifiers, preamps, DACs and sound cards with a discrete design.

The SS3602 is a true dual discrete op-amp built from individual components rather than an integrated circuit, avoiding common IC limitations and enabling higher performance in gain, noise behavior and drive capability in demanding audio signal paths. Its output stage is biased into Class A operation, prioritizing linear, continuous operation and refined low-level detail for smoother signal integrity, especially in critical gain and output stages.

Electrically, it is specified with 140dB of open-loop gain and two-pole compensation for excellent signal control and low-noise operation, with input offset voltage typically under 250uV at +/-12V Vcc - which is why Sparkos points to DAC output stages, preamps and buffers as natural homes. Physically, it is a DIP8-compatible package with gold-plated pins and an approximate footprint of 15.0 x 13.75mm, standing about 10.5mm above the PCB seating plane - taller than a conventional chip, so verify clearance inside the enclosure. Installation carries two rules from the listing: always disconnect power before installing or removing the op-amp, and always align the notch on the op-amp with the socket notch, as damage from incorrect installation is not covered by warranty or compensation.

How it compares

The SS3602 is the single-piece discrete op-amp of the two in this group. The Burson Audio V7 Vivid / Classic Discrete Dual Op Amp (1 Pair) review ($199.99, $110.00 more) is sold as two pieces with two DIP8 sockets, two silicon retainers and a choice of Vivid or Classic voicing, and its page gives a supply range (8VDC to 30VDC), a current draw up to 35mA and a 20mm height. The SS3602 page gives 140dB open-loop gain, a typical input offset under 250uV at ±12V, a Class A output stage and about 10.5mm of height above the board, but no supply range or current draw. Per piece the V7 comes to about $100 against $89.99.

Choose the SS3602 if you need one op-amp, are short of headroom or want a published gain and offset figure; choose the V7 for two pieces or a choice of voicing, and count your device's op-amp sockets first. If your equipment uses tubes rather than op-amps, the Matched Pair 7-Pin GE JAN 5654W Vacuum Tubes review ($34.99, $55.00 less) is the swap-in part for 6J1, 6AK5 and EF95 sockets.

Shipping, returns and warranty

  • Shipping: Douk Audio's current shipping page says orders are generally processed no later than the next business day and arrive in 2-8 business days, with duties, taxes and customs fees included in the checkout price unless noted otherwise.
  • Older shipping terms are still online: airmail at 10-25 days for parcels under 2 kg, DHL, UPS or FedEx at 5-8 days above that, and a line saying the store is not responsible for import duties. Check the delivery estimate and any duties at checkout.
  • Returns: ask within 30 days of delivery and wait for approval before sending anything; an approved return has to ship within 7 days. Items need all packaging and accessories and no excessive wear, or the store can refuse them or refund part of the price. Refunds go to the original payment method after inspection.
  • Not refunded: original and expedited shipping, duties, taxes and customs charges, unless the law requires it or the store made the error. The return page does not say who pays return postage, and the older refund page excludes mistaken orders and change-of-mind returns from free after-sale service.
  • Warranty: 24 months from purchase for manufacturing defects, with free repair, a replacement unit and free shipping both ways for covered repairs. Drops, liquid, DIY repairs, lightning, extreme temperatures and misuse are excluded (partial fees may apply), and damage from weak packing on the way back may not be covered. The older refund page still says 1 year.
  • Seller: the site is run by Shenzhen Anba Technology Co., Ltd (Shenzhen, China) and HONGKONG LONGSHENG Import and Export Trading Co., Limited (Hong Kong); support is by email at [email protected]. These terms cover orders placed on doukaudio.com; other sellers apply their own.

For this product, the page offers 'Shipping from' choices of US, UK, EU, AU and China, all at the same price, and shows Free Shipping, 2-8 Days Arrival, 30-Day Return and 2-Year Warranty badges near the price.

What we liked

  • True dual discrete design built from individual components, avoiding common IC limitations in gain, noise behavior and drive capability
  • Class A biased output stage prioritizes linear operation and refined low-level detail
  • 140dB open-loop gain with two-pole compensation for signal control and low-noise operation in DAC output stages, preamps and buffers
  • DIP8 package is a direct plug-and-play upgrade for IC op-amps such as NE5532, OPA2604 and LME49720
  • Gold-plated pins and a DIP8 socket included in the box

Worth noting

  • Sold as a single unit (1PC) - check how many op-amp sockets your device has before ordering
  • At about 10.5mm above the PCB seating plane it stands taller than a standard IC op-amp, so cramped enclosures may not close over it
  • Incorrect installation, such as wrong orientation, is not covered by warranty or compensation

Questions before you buy

What op-amps can the SS3602 replace?

It is DIP8 compatible and described as a direct plug-and-play upgrade for common IC op-amps such as the NE5532, OPA2604 and LME49720 in amplifiers, preamps, DACs and sound cards.

How should I install it?

Disconnect power before installing or removing the op-amp, and align the notch on the op-amp with the socket notch. Damage caused by incorrect installation is not covered by warranty or compensation.

Will it fit in my device?

Check clearance first: the SS3602 stands about 10.5mm above the PCB seating plane with a footprint of roughly 15.0 x 13.75mm, which is taller than a standard IC op-amp.

What is included with the op-amp?

One SS3602 dual discrete op-amp and one DIP8 socket.

What we couldn’t verify

  • The page says the SS3602 'can deliver a more realistic, detailed, and engaging sound' than typical IC op-amps and brings 'measurable performance gains', but gives no noise, distortion or slew-rate figures; the only electrical numbers are 140dB gain and a typical offset under 250uV.
  • The page gives no supply voltage range, current draw or heat figure, only the offset at ±12 Vcc, so a buyer cannot check the part against a device's supply rails from the page.
  • 'Excellent signal control', 'low noise operation' and 'refined low-level detail' are page claims without measurements, and the 140dB open-loop gain has no frequency or load conditions.
  • The page says damage from incorrect installation is not covered by warranty or compensation and asks you to align the op-amp notch with the socket notch; it does not show how to find the notch.
  • One buyer review on the page (Apr 16, 2026) says an outer chip position in an Ampapa Q1 was blocked by a backlight board by about 1mm; the page gives no clearance figure beyond the 10.5mm height.
