Our verdict

Meant for owners of a FiiO JM21, M21 or M33R2R who want a Bluetooth speaker with a bay for it, listed at $79.99 with Bluetooth V6.0, SBC, LDAC and a USBDAC mode. Look elsewhere if you need a portable speaker, since a picture says it is for desktop use, or if you do not own a compatible player: the pictured in-the-box list has none. No independent test was checked for this review: every figure is the store's own.

Why 3.3/5: Limited by a page with no specification list as text, with 8 of its 16 pictures unread, by the store's own terms contradicting each other, and by figures that are the store's own with no independent test checked for this review.

Options and pricing

Retro Box Black and Retro Box White are the two options, each $79.99 and orderable when the page was read. A pictured in-the-box list names the Retro Box, a USB data cable, an M21 and JM21 fixed inner liner, a quick start guide and an instruction card, among other items. The pictures say the liner comes installed for the JM21 and M21 and is removed to fit the M33R2R.

How it compares

The Retro Box is a speaker, so its siblings here are sources or amplifiers rather than rivals. The FiiO SNOWSKY Echo Mini 512MB Portable Music Player costs $67.99 and the SHANLING M1 Plus $209, both named portable music players, while the pictures name FiiO's JM21, M21 and M33R2R as the players that fit the Retro Box bay. The TOPPING Mini300 Desktop Power Amplifier at $139 is named an amplifier, a different kind of product from a Bluetooth speaker.

Shipping, returns and warranty

HiFiGO sells from hifigo.com and says every order leaves its warehouse in China, usually 1-3 business days after it is placed, and says its delivery times are estimates, not promises. Its shipping policy gives the United States 1-2 weeks (about 10 days on average) by Priority and 6-10 days by Premium, both with duties and taxes prepaid by the store; Canada 2-3 weeks; the United Kingdom 1-2 weeks; and Australia 10-15 days. Express couriers (DHL, UPS, FedEx) take 3-7 days, but then the buyer pays any duties and taxes. No shipping page names New Zealand, PO boxes are not accepted, and the free-shipping thresholds differ between the store's own pages, so check the cart. One of its two shipping pages adds that a lost parcel on an order above $50 gets only a 50% refund. A US buyer reported a $40 tariff charge in August 2025, after which HiFiGO said it had added a customs notice at checkout.

Read the return terms before you order. The homepage advertises 7-day returns. Both of HiFiGO's policy pages offer a 7-day dead-on-arrival cover (a replacement or a full refund, with the return postage refunded) and also describe 30-day returns, but a request made 7 to 30 days after delivery loses 30% of the MSRP as a restocking fee (10% more if the packaging is incomplete), plus shipping both ways and duties, and the FAQ on the same pages says there is no refund or exchange once 7 days have passed. One version recommends reselling an opened product locally. Custom IEMs and custom cables cannot be returned, no return address is published, and buyers describe sending items back to China.

HiFiGO's warranty runs one year from the order date for parts and labor; its policy names desktop DACs and amps, IEMs and dongles at one year and gives cables and adapters three months. HiFiGO decides between repair and replacement, the buyer pays the shipping, and faulty items go back for service, not for a refund. Claims go to [email protected], the only contact the store lists: its pages name no company, street address or phone, and its terms are governed by the laws of China.

FiiO's own notice "A letter to FiiO fans" (undated) lists HiFiGo among sellers it has not authorized and recommends buying FiiO products from local agents. FiiO says it still services genuine products bought from such sellers if the buyer emails [email protected], but the buyer pays the freight and duties if a unit must go back to China.

On Trustpilot, HiFiGO had 4.6 out of 5 from 378 reviews when we checked on 2026-10-28 (91% five-star, 5% one-star), and it had replied to about 75% of negative reviews; Trustpilot notes the store has not invited customers to review recently. The one-star reviews mostly concern the short return window and the deductions on returns, items listed in stock that turned out back-ordered, slow email support and a tariff charge on a US delivery in 2025. HiFiGO says its products are genuine and come in the brands' retail packaging; it does not claim to be an authorized dealer.

What we liked

  • Bluetooth V6.0 with SBC and LDAC, plus a USBDAC mode at 44.1k/48k/96kHz and 16/24/32bit, per the pictured table
  • Front bay for a FiiO player: the JM21 and M21 fit with the pre-installed liner, the M33R2R with it removed, per the pictures
  • Battery life of about 10h30m in SBC format and a charging time of about 2.5 hours are listed
  • Size and weight are given: approx. 152.8x98.8x76mm excluding foot pads and knobs, and approx. 683g
  • A pictured FAQ lists a force restart, a pairing reset and knob volume steps

Worth noting

  • Output power is 5.3Wx2 in the spec table but 5W+5W in two other pictures
  • The title says M33 Series but the pictures that were read name only M33 R2R, and no player is in the pictured in-the-box list
  • A picture says it is designed for desktop use and is not recommended for carrying around
  • A picture advises against connecting its USB port to a phone or tablet USB output port and says the power draw can exceed 1.4A
  • A pictured FAQ says the gain is set conservatively and promises an app gain adjustment later, with no date given

Questions before you buy

Which FiiO players fit the Retro Box?

A pictured usage card names the M21 and JM21, which fit with the pre-installed inner liner, and the M33 R2R with the liner removed; a FAQ picture adds later M25 models. The pictured in-the-box list includes no player.

How does it connect and what formats does it list?

Bluetooth Receive Mode at V6.0 with SBC and LDAC, or USBDAC Mode at 44.1k/48k/96kHz and 16/24/32bit. A picture says the USB port is not recommended for phone or tablet USB output ports and that its power draw can exceed 1.4A, so a computer is suggested.

What battery life does it list?

The spec table gives about 10h30m in SBC format, credited to FiiO's lab and varying by music type, with a charging time of about 2.5 hours; a banner shows 10.5h. The power input is DC5V ≥2A.

Where does HiFiGO ship from, and how long does it take?

From its warehouse in China, usually 1-3 business days after the order. The shipping policy gives 1-2 weeks to the US by Priority (6-10 days by Premium), both with duties and taxes prepaid, 2-3 weeks to Canada, 1-2 weeks to the UK and 10-15 days to Australia. Express couriers take 3-7 days, but the buyer pays any duties.

Can I send it back if I change my mind?

HiFiGO gives 7 days to report an item that arrives dead, damaged or wrong. Its policy also describes 30-day returns, but requests 7 to 30 days after delivery lose 30% of the MSRP plus shipping both ways and duties, and the FAQ on the same page says no refund or exchange after 7 days. Ask [email protected] before you open the box.

What warranty does HiFiGO give?

One year from the order date for parts and labor, for faults in build or materials (the policy names desktop DACs and amps, IEMs and dongles; cables and adapters get three months). HiFiGO chooses repair or replacement, the buyer pays the shipping, and a faulty item is serviced rather than refunded. Claims go to [email protected].

What we couldn’t verify

  • Output power reads 5.3Wx2 in the spec table, with no load given, but 5W+5W in two other pictures; the title says M33 Series while the pictures that were read name only M33 R2R and M33R2R.
  • The battery figure (about 10h30m in SBC, credited to FiiO's lab) and the DSP, passive-radiator and preset sound-effect descriptions are claims in pictures; the speaker line in the spec table is garbled, so the driver description is uncertain.
  • An after-sales card mock-up in a picture has overlapping, garbled text with a partly legible two-year warranty line whose length is unconfirmed; 8 of the 16 pictures were not opened (banners, button and knob drawings, app screens).
  • HiFiGO's policy pages contradict each other: 30-day returns with a 30% restocking fee in one place, no refund or exchange after 7 days in the FAQ.
  • HiFiGO's pages name no company, street address or phone number; the only contact given is [email protected].
  • FiiO's undated seller notice lists HiFiGo as an unauthorized seller; FiiO says it still services genuine units, with freight and duties paid by the buyer.
