LADDER Chopin II Line Preamplifier Review
A line preamplifier for the desk, listed at $1,549 in black or silver. Its pictured spec table gives two XLR inputs and one RCA input, outputs of 2.0Vrms on RCA and 4.0Vrms on XLR, unity gain and a 60-step relay-based attenuator.

Our verdict
Suited to buyers who want a line-level preamplifier with XLR and RCA inputs and outputs, a 60-step relay attenuator and a front display at $1,549. Look elsewhere if you expect a tube or R2R design, which no picture confirms, or if you need settled dimensions. No independent test was checked for this review: every figure is the store's own.

- Buyers who want a balanced line preamplifier with a 60-step relay attenuator.
- Skip if
- You expect a tube or R2R design, or need dimensions that the pictures agree on.
Why 3.3/5: Held back by a page with no specification list as text and a description that is only pictures, by the store's own terms contradicting each other, and by figures that are the store's own with no independent test checked for this review.
With its description carried by eight pictures and no text, the LADDER Chopin II is a desktop line preamplifier that the page lists at $1,549 in black or silver. The pictured table lists two XLR inputs, one RCA input, RCA and XLR outputs of 2.0Vrms and 4.0Vrms, unity gain and a 60-step relay-based stepped attenuator, and a front LED display is pictured reading IN1 60.

Options and pricing
Black and Silver versions of the Chopin II are listed at $1,549 each, and both were orderable when the page was read. The pictured table gives the finish as Silver / Black aluminum alloy, a net weight of 6.5kg, a gross weight of 9.7kg and power use of 1W idle and 20W operational. A front panel picture shows a left knob marked Standby / Input / Mute, a right knob marked Volume and the LED display.
How it compares
The LADDER Bach II is listed at $899 against $1,549 for the Chopin II, and its spec line starts with the same inputs, IN1-XLR IN2-XLR IN3-RCA; the Bach II's name also mentions a remote control. The SMSL VMV D1se + A1 Power Amplifier + XRL at $1,379.99 is named with a power amplifier, while the Chopin II is a line preamplifier. The Cayin iDAC-8 at $1,199.99 is named a tube DAC and headphone amplifier. The Chopin II suits a chain that already has a source and an amplifier.
Shipping, returns and warranty
HiFiGO sells from hifigo.com and says every order leaves its warehouse in China, usually 1-3 business days after it is placed, and says its delivery times are estimates, not promises. Its shipping policy gives the United States 1-2 weeks (about 10 days on average) by Priority and 6-10 days by Premium, both with duties and taxes prepaid by the store; Canada 2-3 weeks; the United Kingdom 1-2 weeks; and Australia 10-15 days. Express couriers (DHL, UPS, FedEx) take 3-7 days, but then the buyer pays any duties and taxes. No shipping page names New Zealand, PO boxes are not accepted, and the free-shipping thresholds differ between the store's own pages, so check the cart. One of its two shipping pages adds that a lost parcel on an order above $50 gets only a 50% refund. A US buyer reported a $40 tariff charge in August 2025, after which HiFiGO said it had added a customs notice at checkout.
Read the return terms before you order. The homepage advertises 7-day returns. Both of HiFiGO's policy pages offer a 7-day dead-on-arrival cover (a replacement or a full refund, with the return postage refunded) and also describe 30-day returns, but a request made 7 to 30 days after delivery loses 30% of the MSRP as a restocking fee (10% more if the packaging is incomplete), plus shipping both ways and duties, and the FAQ on the same pages says there is no refund or exchange once 7 days have passed. One version recommends reselling an opened product locally. Custom IEMs and custom cables cannot be returned, no return address is published, and buyers describe sending items back to China.
HiFiGO's warranty runs one year from the order date for parts and labor; its policy names desktop DACs and amps, IEMs and dongles at one year and gives cables and adapters three months. HiFiGO decides between repair and replacement, the buyer pays the shipping, and faulty items go back for service, not for a refund. Claims go to [email protected], the only contact the store lists: its pages name no company, street address or phone, and its terms are governed by the laws of China.
On Trustpilot, HiFiGO had 4.6 out of 5 from 378 reviews when we checked on 2026-10-28 (91% five-star, 5% one-star), and it had replied to about 75% of negative reviews; Trustpilot notes the store has not invited customers to review recently. The one-star reviews mostly concern the short return window and the deductions on returns, items listed in stock that turned out back-ordered, slow email support and a tariff charge on a US delivery in 2025. HiFiGO says its products are genuine and come in the brands' retail packaging; it does not claim to be an authorized dealer.
What we liked
- A pictured table gives input and output impedance, output levels, gain, response, S/N, dynamic range and crosstalk
- Two XLR inputs and one RCA input, with RCA and XLR outputs, per the front and rear pictures
- A 60-step relay-based stepped attenuator, microprocessor controlled, per the technical highlights picture
- Net weight 6.5kg, gross weight 9.7kg and power use of 1W idle and 20W operational are listed
- AC power requirement listed as 100-240VAC, 50/60Hz (Worldwide Voltage)
Worth noting
- The dimensions conflict: 320mm X 330mm X 60mm in the table, 270 mm x 240mm x 60mm in the size drawing
- The store title says R2R, yet no picture uses R2R or mentions a tube; a picture says the output stage uses field-effect transistors
- THD+N reads 0.00% in the pictured table, with no measurement level or bandwidth given
- The description is eight pictures with no text, so every figure comes from pictures
Questions before you buy
Is the Chopin II a tube or R2R preamplifier?
The store title says R2R, but no picture uses the word R2R or mentions a tube. A picture says the differential amplification circuit uses imported ON Semiconductor field-effect transistors for output amplification, and the pictures describe a relay-based 60-step attenuator.
What inputs and outputs does it list?
The pictured table lists IN1-XLR, IN2-XLR and IN3-RCA as inputs and RCA at 2.0Vrms and XLR at 4.0Vrms as outputs, with unity gain of 0dB. Input impedance is 12.2K Ohms single-ended and 60K Ohms balanced; output impedance is 200 Ohms and 400 Ohms.
What size and weight does it list?
Net weight 6.5kg and gross weight 9.7kg. The size is given two ways: 320mm X 330mm X 60mm (and 450mm X 380 mm X 160mm) in the table, and 270 mm, 240mm and 60mm in the size drawing.
Where does HiFiGO ship from, and how long does it take?
From its warehouse in China, usually 1-3 business days after the order. The shipping policy gives 1-2 weeks to the US by Priority (6-10 days by Premium), both with duties and taxes prepaid, 2-3 weeks to Canada, 1-2 weeks to the UK and 10-15 days to Australia. Express couriers take 3-7 days, but the buyer pays any duties.
Can I send it back if I change my mind?
HiFiGO gives 7 days to report an item that arrives dead, damaged or wrong. Its policy also describes 30-day returns, but requests 7 to 30 days after delivery lose 30% of the MSRP plus shipping both ways and duties, and the FAQ on the same page says no refund or exchange after 7 days. Ask [email protected] before you open the box.
What warranty does HiFiGO give?
One year from the order date for parts and labor, for faults in build or materials (the policy names desktop DACs and amps, IEMs and dongles; cables and adapters get three months). HiFiGO chooses repair or replacement, the buyer pays the shipping, and a faulty item is serviced rather than refunded. Claims go to [email protected].

What we couldn’t verify
- The table's dimensions (320mm X 330mm X 60mm and 450mm X 380 mm X 160mm, with no label for unit or package) differ from the size drawing's 270 mm x 240mm x 60mm.
- The store title says R2R, but no picture uses the word R2R or mentions a tube; a picture says output amplification uses field-effect transistors.
- A 12Months warranty line sits in the table; THD+N reads 0.00% without conditions; the toroidal transformer with American ERSE capacitors forming 8 independent supplies and the twice-standard conversion rate are the pictures' own claims.
- HiFiGO's policy pages contradict each other: 30-day returns with a 30% restocking fee in one place, no refund or exchange after 7 days in the FAQ.
- HiFiGO's pages name no company, street address or phone number; the only contact given is [email protected].
