Douk Audio ST-01 PLUS TPA3255 Amplifier Review

The Douk Audio ST-01 PLUS is a mini stereo amplifier priced at $99.99 that combines a TPA3255 class-D amp, Bluetooth 5.2, an MM phono stage and a vintage-style VU meter in a chassis small enough for a desk at 115x100x60mm.

The page headlines 300W x 2 into 4 ohms, which the maker says can drive most home passive speakers with low distortion, while the store's product description rates 78W+78W at 4 ohms on a 32V/5A supply and 120W+120W on 48V/5A. The amp works from DC 24-48V (a 32V/5A supply handles most speakers, with larger supplies for more headroom). Inputs cover Bluetooth 5.2 via the QCC304X chip - supporting SBC, aptX, aptX-LL and aptX-HD for low-latency wireless streaming - plus stereo RCA and an MM phono input with 5mV sensitivity for turntables. THD+N is 0.02% at 1kHz, SNR is 107dB or better, and the response spans 20Hz-20kHz within plus or minus 1dB.

Outputs are banana speaker jacks and a 3.5mm AUX output at a 2V rated level for connecting another amplifier or active speaker and subwoofer. The integrated VU meter brings a retro touch, and its sensitivity can be adjusted to match different input signals - so it works as a calibration aid as well as decoration. Bass and treble are adjustable (plus or minus 6dB), Bluetooth pairing records can be cleared with one function, and input indicators show the working status in real time. The AUX and speaker outputs share one volume and tone control.

How it compares

No other TPA3255 amp here combines Bluetooth with an MM phono input. The ST-01 PLUS review's $99.99 is the Without Power Adapter option; with a 32V5A adapter it costs $119.99. The Douk Audio NS-13G MAX ($114.99 with its 48V/5A adapter in the box) has the phono input but no Bluetooth or VU meter, and it lists lower distortion (THD+N 0.005% at 1kHz against 0.02%); with a 32V5A adapter the ST-01 PLUS is $5.00 above it. The Douk Audio A5 PRO ($114.99 with a 32V/5A adapter) adds a headphone output and the Douk Audio M1 MAX ($109.99 without an adapter, $129.99 with a 32V/5A one) adds U-disk playback, but neither has a phono input. Both of those pages print a four-supply output table (78W+78W at 4Ω on a 32V/5A supply), which the ST-01 PLUS page does not.

Who it suits: the ST-01 PLUS fits a small system that mixes a turntable, a phone or PC over Bluetooth and a VU meter; at $99.99 it needs a DC 24-48V supply of your own, or $119.99 for the 32V5A adapter. The NS-13G MAX fits a turntable-first setup without wireless, the A5 PRO suits headphone listening, and the M1 MAX suits playing files from a USB stick.

Shipping, returns and warranty

• Shipping: Douk Audio's current shipping page says orders are generally processed no later than the next business day and arrive in 2-8 business days, with duties, taxes and customs fees included in the checkout price unless noted otherwise.
• Older shipping terms are still online: airmail at 10-25 days for parcels under 2 kg, DHL, UPS or FedEx at 5-8 days above that, and a line saying the store is not responsible for import duties. Check the delivery estimate and any duties at checkout.
• Returns: ask within 30 days of delivery and wait for approval before sending anything; an approved return has to ship within 7 days. Items need all packaging and accessories and no excessive wear, or the store can refuse them or refund part of the price. Refunds go to the original payment method after inspection.
• Not refunded: original and expedited shipping, duties, taxes and customs charges, unless the law requires it or the store made the error. The return page does not say who pays return postage, and the older refund page excludes mistaken orders and change-of-mind returns from free after-sale service.
• Warranty: 24 months from purchase for manufacturing defects, with free repair, a replacement unit and free shipping both ways for covered repairs. Drops, liquid, DIY repairs, lightning, extreme temperatures and misuse are excluded (partial fees may apply), and damage from weak packing on the way back may not be covered. The older refund page still says 1 year.
