Our verdict

The T3 PRO takes the basic MM phono stage idea and adds a pair of rollable 6A2 tubes plus a four-position gain switch, all for $59.99. It also works as a plain tube line preamp through the 3.5mm AUX input, which makes it more versatile than a bare phono box. MM cartridges only, and you still need an amp or active speakers behind it, but as a first tube phono stage it is a lot of flexibility for the money.

Best for
Vinyl listeners who want an entry-level tube phono stage with adjustable gain and tube-rolling options.

You use a moving-coil cartridge, or you want a phono stage with its own headphone output.

Why 3.6/5: Lifted by two replaceable 6A2 tubes, a 39/42/45dB gain switch, an AUX input and a printed 98dB SNR for $59.99, with a supply and RCA cable in the box. Held back by an MM-only input, no headphone output, no impedance or gain detail beyond the switch, and claims with no test conditions.

The Douk Audio T3 PRO is a mini phono stage and tube preamp priced at $59.99. It is built to take an MM (moving magnet) turntable signal up to line level, and it can also serve as a straightforward tube preamp for other sources through its 3.5mm AUX input.

The input side offers MM phono plus the 3.5mm AUX connection, which has priority: the listing advises pulling the AUX cable out if you want to use the phono input. Output is stereo RCA at 600mV (3mV, 1kHz), with RIAA-standard frequency response, SNR of at least 98dB and THD of 0.1%. A gain adjustment switch gives you OFF, 39dB, 42dB and 45dB settings, which is useful for matching different cartridges and amplifiers.

The tube section uses two 6A2 vacuum tubes, and the sockets are pluggable: the listing says they can be replaced with 6K4, 6J1, 6J4, GE5654, 6AK5 or 6*1n tubes for a different sound. The chassis is aluminium alloy for better shielding, with gold-plated terminals, and the package includes the preamp, two 6A2 tubes, a power supply, an RCA cable and a manual. It measures 117 x 95 x 30mm and weighs 310g. Douk Audio is explicit in the listing that this is only a preamp and needs to be used with amplifiers or active speakers.

How it compares

The T3 PRO is the T3 with tubes. The Nobsound T3 MM Phono Preamp for Turntables review ($44.99, $15.00 less) lists the same 600mV at 3mV output, SNR of 98dB or better, 0.1% THD and 12V supply in a 118 x 99 x 33mm, 290g case, but has no tubes, no AUX input and no gain switch, and its box has no RCA cable. The T3 PRO adds two 6A2 tubes that take 6K4, 6J1, 6J4, GE5654, 6AK5 or 6*1n swaps, a 3.5mm AUX input that takes priority over phono, and 39, 42 or 45dB gain steps.

Among the other MM-only tube stages, the Douk Audio H5 Tube MM Phono Preamp with Sub Out review ($89.99, $30.00 more) adds an RCA line input, a 20Hz rumble filter on phono, a subwoofer output, dual RCA outputs and ±6dB tone controls, and prints THD+N of 0.15% on phono and an SNR of 78dB or better; the Ampapa A1 Mini 5654 Tube Phono Preamp review ($129.99) adds a headphone amp (125mW at 32 ohm), treble and bass knobs and a phono SNR of 80dB or better. The T3 PRO's printed SNR (98dB or better, input not stated) is above both of those phono figures, though none of the three gives test conditions. Choose the T3 PRO for the cheapest tube MM stage with an AUX input; choose the H5 for a subwoofer feed or the A1 for headphones. None of the three takes an MC cartridge.

Shipping, returns and warranty

  • Shipping: Douk Audio's current shipping page says orders are generally processed no later than the next business day and arrive in 2-8 business days, with duties, taxes and customs fees included in the checkout price unless noted otherwise.
  • Older shipping terms are still online: airmail at 10-25 days for parcels under 2 kg, DHL, UPS or FedEx at 5-8 days above that, and a line saying the store is not responsible for import duties. Check the delivery estimate and any duties at checkout.
  • Returns: ask within 30 days of delivery and wait for approval before sending anything; an approved return has to ship within 7 days. Items need all packaging and accessories and no excessive wear, or the store can refuse them or refund part of the price. Refunds go to the original payment method after inspection.
  • Not refunded: original and expedited shipping, duties, taxes and customs charges, unless the law requires it or the store made the error. The return page does not say who pays return postage, and the older refund page excludes mistaken orders and change-of-mind returns from free after-sale service.
  • Warranty: 24 months from purchase for manufacturing defects, with free repair, a replacement unit and free shipping both ways for covered repairs. Drops, liquid, DIY repairs, lightning, extreme temperatures and misuse are excluded (partial fees may apply), and damage from weak packing on the way back may not be covered. The older refund page still says 1 year.
  • Seller: the site is run by Shenzhen Anba Technology Co., Ltd (Shenzhen, China) and HONGKONG LONGSHENG Import and Export Trading Co., Limited (Hong Kong); support is by email at [email protected]. These terms cover orders placed on doukaudio.com; other sellers apply their own.

For this product, the page has a 'Shipping to' selector (US, UK, EU, AU, Other) and shows Free Shipping, 2-8 Days Arrival, 30-Day Return and 2-Year Warranty badges near the price.

What we liked

  • Two tube stages you can roll: the 6A2 sockets also accept 6K4, 6J1, 6J4, GE5654, 6AK5 and 6*1n tubes
  • Gain switch with OFF, 39dB, 42dB and 45dB settings to match different cartridges and downstream gear
  • Doubles as a line-level tube preamp through the 3.5mm AUX input
  • Aluminium alloy chassis for shielding and gold-plated terminals for lossless contact
  • Compact at 117 x 95 x 30mm and 310g, with a machined and frosted front panel

Worth noting

  • MM cartridges only; there is no moving-coil option on this model
  • The 3.5mm AUX input has priority, so the cable must be unplugged to use the phono input
  • Still a preamp only, so it needs an amplifier or active speakers rather than powering speakers itself

Questions before you buy

Does the T3 PRO work with moving-coil cartridges?

No. The phono input is for MM (moving magnet) cartridges only; the gain switch covers OFF, 39dB, 42dB and 45dB.

Can I swap the tubes?

Yes. It ships with two 6A2 tubes and the sockets can also take 6K4, 6J1, 6J4, GE5654, 6AK5 or 6*1n tubes.

Can I use it with a phone or CD player?

Yes, through the 3.5mm AUX input, which turns it into a regular tube preamp. Note the AUX input has priority, so unplug it to use the phono input.

What comes in the box?

The T3 PRO preamp, two 6A2 vacuum tubes, a power supply, an RCA cable and a manual.

What we couldn’t verify

  • The gain switch lists OFF beside 39, 42 and 45dB; the page does not say what OFF does.
  • SNR ≥98dB and THD 0.1% come with no test conditions, and the page gives no AUX input level or impedance and no MM input impedance or capacitance.
  • 'Lossless transmission' (gold-plated terminals), 'HiFi clear sound with low noise' and 'extremely high-quality listening experience' are page claims with no measurements behind them.
  • The box lists a power supply without a rating or plug size; the page gives only 'DC12V'.
