Our verdict

The Ampapa A1 is a $129.99 mini tube preamp that does three jobs: it converts an MM turntable signal to line level, amplifies line sources, and drives 16-300 ohm headphones. JAN5654 tubes in pluggable ceramic sockets deliver the warm analog sound the brand promises, and treble and bass knobs shape it to taste. It is a strong entry point for the Ampapa brand, with the usual caveats: MM cartridges only, 3.5mm headphone output, and shared controls between the two outputs.

Best for
Vinyl listeners who want an MM phono stage, tube line preamp and headphone amp with tone controls in one compact box.
Skip if
You use a moving-coil cartridge or need a 6.35mm headphone jack with higher output power.

Why 3.8/5: Lifted by JAN5654 tubes on pluggable sockets, RCA and headphone outputs at once, printed noise, distortion and headphone-power figures and an adapter, cable and warranty card in the box. Held back by an MM-only input and no unit size or weight on the page.

The Ampapa A1 is a vacuum tube preamp, phono preamp and headphone amp priced at $129.99, and it is the first product designed by Ampapa, distributed through Douk Audio. It is built for desktop and small-space hi-fi: an MM phono stage converts turntable signals to line level, a stereo RCA input handles everything else, and a 3.5mm headphone jack adds private listening.

The phono stage uses low-noise integrated circuits and high-quality components for clear record playback with an input level of 0.005V RMS and response within plus or minus 2dB of the RIAA curve. The line path accepts 0.775V RMS over stereo RCA, applies the tube stage and outputs 1.5V RMS to amplifiers or active speakers. The JAN5654 tubes give what Ampapa describes as a warm, fine sound that improves detail, transparency, immediacy, richness and dynamics, and because the ceramic silver-plated sockets are pluggable, the tubes can be replaced with 6J1, 6K4, 6J5, GE5654W, 6J1N, 6J2N or 6A2 types directly.

A treble and bass tone control lets you tailor the sound, and a dedicated headphone amp circuit built on two NE5532 op-amps drives 16-300 ohm headphones with 125mW at 32 ohm, 62.5mW at 64 ohm and 30mW at 128 ohm. Total harmonic distortion is 0.1% or less. The RCA output and 3.5mm headphone output can run at the same time, with one set of volume, treble and bass controls governing both.

Inside, the A1 uses solid aluminum alloy knobs and a distinctive case decorated with warm orange and cool green lights. It measures 20Hz-20kHz within plus or minus 0.5dB on the RCA path and ships as a compact desktop unit with high-end component choices behind an eye-catching face.

How it compares

The A1 is the MM-only member of the tube-and-headphone group. The Douk Audio T9 6E2 Tube Preamp MM/MC Phono review ($134.99, $5.00 more) prints the same SNR (106dB or better on RCA, 80dB or better on phono), THD of 0.1% or less and a 20Hz-20KHz (±0.5dB) line response, but it takes MC cartridges too and drives headphones harder: 250mW at 32 ohm against the A1's 125mW, with bass and treble of ±10dB and two 6E2 magic-eye level tubes beside the 6A2 signal tubes. The A1 page gives no tone range.

The Douk Audio T4 PLUS Tube Phono Preamp review ($109.99, $20.00 less) adds MC support through a seven-position input impedance switch, a VU meter and JAN5725 tubes, with 150mW at 32 ohm for headphones, but its page prints a phono SNR of 71dB and THD of 0.8% against the A1's phono SNR of 80dB or better and THD of 0.1% or less, a THD line the A1 page does not tie to the phono input (neither with test conditions). The Douk Audio H5 Tube MM Phono Preamp with Sub Out review ($89.99) is MM only too, with a 20Hz rumble filter and a subwoofer output but no headphone jack. Choose the A1 for an MM cartridge, tone knobs and a higher printed phono SNR than the T4 PLUS; choose the T9 or T4 PLUS for an MC cartridge, and the H5 for a subwoofer feed.

Shipping, returns and warranty

  • Shipping: Douk Audio's current shipping page says orders are generally processed no later than the next business day and arrive in 2-8 business days, with duties, taxes and customs fees included in the checkout price unless noted otherwise.
  • Older shipping terms are still online: airmail at 10-25 days for parcels under 2 kg, DHL, UPS or FedEx at 5-8 days above that, and a line saying the store is not responsible for import duties. Check the delivery estimate and any duties at checkout.
  • Returns: ask within 30 days of delivery and wait for approval before sending anything; an approved return has to ship within 7 days. Items need all packaging and accessories and no excessive wear, or the store can refuse them or refund part of the price. Refunds go to the original payment method after inspection.
  • Not refunded: original and expedited shipping, duties, taxes and customs charges, unless the law requires it or the store made the error. The return page does not say who pays return postage, and the older refund page excludes mistaken orders and change-of-mind returns from free after-sale service.
  • Warranty: 24 months from purchase for manufacturing defects, with free repair, a replacement unit and free shipping both ways for covered repairs. Drops, liquid, DIY repairs, lightning, extreme temperatures and misuse are excluded (partial fees may apply), and damage from weak packing on the way back may not be covered. The older refund page still says 1 year.
  • Seller: the site is run by Shenzhen Anba Technology Co., Ltd (Shenzhen, China) and HONGKONG LONGSHENG Import and Export Trading Co., Limited (Hong Kong); support is by email at [email protected]. These terms cover orders placed on doukaudio.com; other sellers apply their own.

For this product, the page has a 'Shipping to' selector (US, UK, EU, AU, Other) and shows Free Shipping, 2-8 Days Arrival, 30-Day Return and 2-Year Warranty badges near the price.

What we liked

  • A complete front end in one box: MM phono conversion, line preamplification and a headphone amp with 2 x NE5532 circuitry
  • JAN5654 tubes on ceramic silver-plated pluggable sockets, rollable to 6J1, 6K4, 6J5, GE5654W, 6J1N, 6J2N and 6A2 types
  • Treble and bass knobs plus a headphone output make it flexible for vinyl and desktop listening alike
  • RCA and headphone outputs can work simultaneously with shared volume, treble and bass control
  • Ampapa's debut product, made in the same family as Nobsound / Douk Audio with authorized distribution

Worth noting

  • The phono input is MM only, so moving-coil cartridges are not supported
  • The headphone jack is 3.5mm and shares its volume and tone settings with the RCA output
  • The headphone output power is modest at 30mW into 128 ohm, so very demanding headphones may want more

Questions before you buy

Does the A1 work with my turntable?

It has a Phono MM input with 0.005V RMS input level and RIAA-accurate response, so it suits moving-magnet cartridges. Moving-coil cartridges are not supported.

Which tubes can I roll into the A1?

The pluggable sockets are compatible with 6J1, 6K4, 6J5, GE5654W, 6J1N, 6J2N and 6A2 tubes, which can be replaced directly.

Can I use the RCA output and headphones at the same time?

Yes. The stereo RCA output and 3.5mm headphone output can work simultaneously, with volume, treble and bass controlled together for both.

What is the return and warranty policy?

Douk Audio's current policy pages give you 30 days from delivery to request a return, which Douk must approve before you send the item back (within 7 days of approval); original shipping fees and duties aren't refunded. Its warranty covers manufacturing defects for 24 months from purchase, with free repair or replacement.

What we couldn’t verify

  • The review's 'first product' and 'distributed through Douk Audio' come from the store's product description, which calls Nobsound / Douk Audio the A1's only distributor; the page text read on Oct 25, 2026 lists only 'Brand: Ampapa', and no source outside the store was checked for either claim.
  • The page writes the replacement tubes as '6J1, 6K4, 6J5, GE5654W, 6*1N, 6*2N, 6J5, 6A2'; the review reads '6*1N' and '6*2N' as 6J1N and 6J2N.
  • THD ≤0.1% and the S/N figures are printed with no test level or weighting; the page says it drives '16-300 ohm' headphones but gives power only at 32, 64 and 128 ohm.
  • The page gives only package size (260 x 145 x 78mm) and package weight (900g), not the unit's own size or weight.
  • Power is DC 12V (≥1.5A) with an adapter in the box; the page gives no plug size or polarity.
  • $129.99 is the price of the US, UK, EU and AU options; the store's option data prices the Other region at $139.99.
