Our verdict

A fit for a turntable owner with an MM cartridge who wants a phono stage and a 6.35mm headphone jack in one unit at $69.99. Look elsewhere if you use an MC cartridge, need adjustable gain or want a volume control on the RCA output, which the pictures read for this review do not show. The main caveat is that every specification figure comes from pictures on the store's page, and two of them disagree about the volume control.

Why 3.3/5: Held back by a page with no specification list as text and only a short text, with its claims in pictures, by the store's own terms that contradict each other, and because no independent test was checked for this review: every figure is the store's own.

A phono preamplifier first, the SMSL PH-1 also carries a 6.35mm headphone amplifier with its own volume knob, and the page lists it at $69.99. Its pictures describe it as MM only with a fixed 46dB gain, an RCA input and output, a ground post and a DC 5V jack. A pictured table gives 90mWx2 into 32Ω from the headphone jack, 0.008% THD+N and 84dB SNR.

Options and pricing

The page lists a single option, PH-1, at $69.99, orderable when the page was read, so there is no color or plug choice. A connection drawing in the pictures feeds the 5V jack from a USB cable, but the pictures read for this review give no in-the-box list, so it is not stated whether a cable or power adapter comes with the unit.

How it compares

At $69.99 the PH-1 costs less than the XDUOO XA02/XA-02 ES9039Q2M MQA Balanced DAC & Headphone AMP at $199 and the SMSL RAW-HA1 CS43131 Headphone Amplifier & Speaker Amplifier at $249.99. Those titles name a DAC with a headphone amp and a headphone-plus-speaker amplifier; the PH-1 is the one built around a turntable's MM input. It suits a record player owner on a tight budget, while the other two suit buyers who want a DAC or speaker outputs.

Shipping, returns and warranty

HiFiGO sells from hifigo.com and says every order leaves its warehouse in China, usually 1-3 business days after it is placed, and says its delivery times are estimates, not promises. Its shipping policy gives the United States 1-2 weeks (about 10 days on average) by Priority and 6-10 days by Premium, both with duties and taxes prepaid by the store; Canada 2-3 weeks; the United Kingdom 1-2 weeks; and Australia 10-15 days. Express couriers (DHL, UPS, FedEx) take 3-7 days, but then the buyer pays any duties and taxes. No shipping page names New Zealand, PO boxes are not accepted, and the free-shipping thresholds differ between the store's own pages, so check the cart. One of its two shipping pages adds that a lost parcel on an order above $50 gets only a 50% refund. A US buyer reported a $40 tariff charge in August 2025, after which HiFiGO said it had added a customs notice at checkout.

Read the return terms before you order. The homepage advertises 7-day returns. Both of HiFiGO's policy pages offer a 7-day dead-on-arrival cover (a replacement or a full refund, with the return postage refunded) and also describe 30-day returns, but a request made 7 to 30 days after delivery loses 30% of the MSRP as a restocking fee (10% more if the packaging is incomplete), plus shipping both ways and duties, and the FAQ on the same pages says there is no refund or exchange once 7 days have passed. One version recommends reselling an opened product locally. Custom IEMs and custom cables cannot be returned, no return address is published, and buyers describe sending items back to China.

HiFiGO's warranty runs one year from the order date for parts and labor; its policy names desktop DACs and amps, IEMs and dongles at one year and gives cables and adapters three months. HiFiGO decides between repair and replacement, the buyer pays the shipping, and faulty items go back for service, not for a refund. Claims go to [email protected], the only contact the store lists: its pages name no company, street address or phone, and its terms are governed by the laws of China.

On Trustpilot, HiFiGO had 4.6 out of 5 from 378 reviews when we checked on 2026-10-28 (91% five-star, 5% one-star), and it had replied to about 75% of negative reviews; Trustpilot notes the store has not invited customers to review recently. The one-star reviews mostly concern the short return window and the deductions on returns, items listed in stock that turned out back-ordered, slow email support and a tariff charge on a US delivery in 2025. HiFiGO says its products are genuine and come in the brands' retail packaging; it does not claim to be an authorized dealer.

What we liked

  • MM phono input on an RCA jack with a ground post, per the pictures' panel labels
  • Headphone jack and volume knob on the front panel, with 90mWx2 into 32Ω in a pictured table
  • Gain fixed at 46dB and capacitive reactance set at 150pF, so a picture says nothing needs adjusting except the headphone volume
  • Pictured table lists THD+N 0.008%(-81dB), SNR 84dB and channel separation -77dB(1kHz)
  • Runs from a DC 5V 500mA input and lists 1W power consumption in the pictured table
  • Size of 94x30x96mm (WxHxD) and weight of 0.205kg are listed in a picture

Worth noting

  • The pictures say it is MM only, with no MM/MC switching, so an MC cartridge is not covered
  • Gain is fixed at 46dB and only the headphone output has a volume control, per two of the pictures
  • Headphone power is given only at 32Ω in the pictured table; no figure for other loads appears there
  • One picture says it can serve as a front-stage volume control for active speakers, but the pictured controls include only a headphone volume knob
  • The page text gives no specification list as text, so every specification figure sits in pictures

Questions before you buy

Which cartridges does the PH-1 take?

The pictures describe it as MM only, saying it has no MM/MC switching, with gain fixed at 46dB and capacitive reactance set at 150pF. The RCA input is marked MM R IN L.

What headphone output does it have?

A 6.35mm jack on the front panel with its own volume knob. A pictured table gives 90mWx2 into 32Ω; it gives no figure for other loads.

How is it powered and connected?

A DC 5V jack takes 500mA per the pictured table, and a connection drawing shows 5V from a USB cable. The rear panel labels an RCA input, a ground post (GND) and an RCA output for an amplifier.

Where does HiFiGO ship from, and how long does it take?

From its warehouse in China, usually 1-3 business days after the order. The shipping policy gives 1-2 weeks to the US by Priority (6-10 days by Premium), both with duties and taxes prepaid, 2-3 weeks to Canada, 1-2 weeks to the UK and 10-15 days to Australia. Express couriers take 3-7 days, but the buyer pays any duties.

Can I send it back if I change my mind?

HiFiGO gives 7 days to report an item that arrives dead, damaged or wrong. Its policy also describes 30-day returns, but requests 7 to 30 days after delivery lose 30% of the MSRP plus shipping both ways and duties, and the FAQ on the same page says no refund or exchange after 7 days. Ask [email protected] before you open the box.

What warranty does HiFiGO give?

One year from the order date for parts and labor, for faults in build or materials (the policy names desktop DACs and amps, IEMs and dongles; cables and adapters get three months). HiFiGO chooses repair or replacement, the buyer pays the shipping, and a faulty item is serviced rather than refunded. Claims go to [email protected].

What we couldn’t verify

  • CONFLICT: one picture says the unit can also be used as a front-stage volume control for active speakers, but another says nothing is adjustable except the headphone volume and the panel shows only a headphone volume knob.
  • The table gives 94x30x96mm (WxHxD) while a size drawing puts 96mm on the front face and 94mm on the side. Picture claims such as a 50% circuit improvement from dropping the MC circuit, more than 50 screened operational amplifiers and 46dB giving about 1Vrms are the page's own claims.
  • HiFiGO's policy pages contradict each other: 30-day returns with a 30% restocking fee in one place, no refund or exchange after 7 days in the FAQ.
  • HiFiGO's pages name no company, street address or phone number; the only contact given is [email protected].
