Douk Audio T12 Tube Phono Preamp (MM/MC) Review
A walnut-cased tube phono preamp for MM and MC turntables with a 120V-driven 6J5B-Q tube stage, +/-10dB bass and treble sliders, dual RCA outputs and a headphone jack.

Our verdict
The T12 is a $109.99 tube phono preamp built to sit beside a turntable: real walnut housing, glowing 6J5B-Q tubes and retro sliders running on a 120V tube stage for a smoother, fuller analog tone. It accepts MM and MC cartridges plus a line input for digital sources, offers +/-10dB bass and treble sliders for record-by-record tuning, and switches between two RCA outputs for quick amp or speaker comparisons. A 3.5mm headphone jack handles late-night listening. THD and SNR are listed for the line input only (under 0.002% and 78dB), and there are no speaker outputs.
- Best for
- Vinyl listeners with MM or MC cartridges who want tube warmth, sliding tone controls and two switchable outputs in a walnut case.
- Skip if
- You need speaker outputs without a separate amp, a 6.35mm or balanced headphone jack, or noise and distortion figures for the phono stage.
Why 3.6/5: Lifted by MM and MC inputs with stated impedance and gain, ±10dB sliders, a walnut case, a 350mW headphone output and a full parameter list for $109.99. Held back by a line SNR of only 78dB, no phono noise or distortion figures, and one RCA output at a time.
The Douk Audio T12 is a tube phono preamp priced at $109.99. It handles vinyl playback with real walnut housing, glowing tubes and retro sliders, turning a practical phono stage into a HiFi piece that fits beside turntables, speakers and records.
Input flexibility is a strong point: it works with both MM and MC turntable setups for vinyl playback, while an RCA line input connects CD players, DACs, streamers and other analog sources - so the T12 serves as both a phono stage and a tube line preamp for everyday listening. The tube stage runs 6J5B-Q tubes at 120V to give them a smoother, fuller analog character, and Douk Audio couples that with low distortion and a high signal-to-noise ratio to put more body behind vocals and a cleaner foundation under playback. The parameter list gives figures for the RCA line input only (THD below 0.002%, SNR of 78dB or more) and none for the phono stage.
Sound shaping is visual and tactile: bass and treble sliders adjust up to +/-10dB with center detents for an easy return to neutral, and the slider positions are easy to read at a glance when tuning for different records, speakers or rooms. On the output side, dual RCA outputs let you switch between two amplifier or powered speaker systems for quick comparison or daily listening without unplugging anything, and a 3.5mm headphone output makes late-night personal listening easier.

How it compares
At the same $109.99, the Douk Audio T4 PLUS Tube Phono Preamp review also takes MM and MC cartridges and drives headphones, but it adds a seven-position impedance switch (1KΩ down to 10Ω) where the T12 lists MM at 47kΩ and MC at 150Ω, and a VU meter where the T12 has sliders. The T4 PLUS page prints 150mW at 32 ohm for headphones against the T12's 350mW maximum, which names no load. The Douk Audio T9 6E2 Tube Preamp MM/MC Phono review ($134.99, $25.00 more) uses 6E2 magic-eye tubes beside 6A2 signal tubes, with 250mW at 32 ohm and ±10dB bass and treble knobs.
For much less, the Douk Audio T14-EQ MM/MC Phono Stage Preamp review ($49.99, $60.00 less) is a USB-powered MM/MC stage with a bottom switch, ±5dB tone controls and a headphone jack, with no tube and no line input; it measures 84 x 84 x 28mm against the T12's 147 x 91 x 78mm. Choose the T12 for a walnut-cased tube stage with MM and MC inputs, a line input and sliders; choose the T4 PLUS if you need finer MC loading; choose the T14-EQ on a budget.
Shipping, returns and warranty
- Shipping: Douk Audio's current shipping page says orders are generally processed no later than the next business day and arrive in 2-8 business days, with duties, taxes and customs fees included in the checkout price unless noted otherwise.
- Older shipping terms are still online: airmail at 10-25 days for parcels under 2 kg, DHL, UPS or FedEx at 5-8 days above that, and a line saying the store is not responsible for import duties. Check the delivery estimate and any duties at checkout.
- Returns: ask within 30 days of delivery and wait for approval before sending anything; an approved return has to ship within 7 days. Items need all packaging and accessories and no excessive wear, or the store can refuse them or refund part of the price. Refunds go to the original payment method after inspection.
- Not refunded: original and expedited shipping, duties, taxes and customs charges, unless the law requires it or the store made the error. The return page does not say who pays return postage, and the older refund page excludes mistaken orders and change-of-mind returns from free after-sale service.
- Warranty: 24 months from purchase for manufacturing defects, with free repair, a replacement unit and free shipping both ways for covered repairs. Drops, liquid, DIY repairs, lightning, extreme temperatures and misuse are excluded (partial fees may apply), and damage from weak packing on the way back may not be covered. The older refund page still says 1 year.
- Seller: the site is run by Shenzhen Anba Technology Co., Ltd (Shenzhen, China) and HONGKONG LONGSHENG Import and Export Trading Co., Limited (Hong Kong); support is by email at [email protected]. These terms cover orders placed on doukaudio.com; other sellers apply their own.
For this product, the page lists shipping from US, UK, EU, AU and China and shows Free Shipping, 2-8 Days Arrival, 30-Day Return and 2-Year Warranty badges near the price.
What we liked
- Works with both MM and MC turntable setups, covering more cartridges than MM-only phono stages
- 120V tube stage helps the 6J5B-Q tubes open up with a smoother, fuller analog tone
- Bass and treble sliders adjust up to +/-10dB with center detents, and their positions are readable at a glance
- Dual RCA outputs let you switch between two amplifier or powered speaker systems without re-plugging cables
- Real walnut housing, glowing tubes and retro sliders make it a display piece next to a turntable
Worth noting
- The only headphone connection is a single 3.5mm jack, so 6.35mm or balanced headphone cables need an adapter
- It is a phono stage and preamp only - there are no speaker outputs, so an amplifier or active speakers are still required
- SNR is listed at only 78dB, for the RCA line input, and the page gives no noise or distortion figures for the phono stage
Questions before you buy

Yes. Dual RCA outputs let you switch between two amplifier or powered speaker systems for quick comparison or daily listening without repeated unplugging.
Is there a headphone output?
Yes, a 3.5mm headphone output for late-night personal listening - 6.35mm cables will need a 3.5mm adapter.

What we couldn’t verify
- THD <0.002% and SNR ≥78dB are printed for the RCA input only; the page gives no noise or distortion figures for the phono stage.
- The page says 'low THD and high SNR', but 78dB is far below the line-input SNR the A1, H5, P7 and T9 pages print (all over 100dB); no test level or weighting is given for either the T12's figure or theirs.
- The page address ends 'with-vu-meter', but the page lists no VU meter; the controls are sliders.
- Maximum headphone power (350mW) and maximum output (8Vrms at 600 ohm) come with no distortion level, and the 350mW figure names no load.
- The FAQ says tubes bought separately may need soldering, while modules from the store plug in; the page does not say which tubes it sells.
