Ampapa D1 TPA3255 Amplifier with VU Meters Review
A TPA3255 amplifier built for 2.1 systems: an adjustable 30-200Hz high-pass keeps bass out of the main speakers, while a full-range PRE-OUT feeds a subwoofer — plus Bluetooth 5.2 and an OLED with 7 VU styles.

Our verdict
The Ampapa D1 is a smart pick for anyone running a 2.1 desktop or shelf system: the TPA3255 platform from the Douk Audio A5 returns with a 30-200Hz adjustable high-pass that cleans up the main speakers, a full-range pre-out for the subwoofer, balanced TRS and Bluetooth 5.2 inputs, and an OLED with 7 retro VU styles. At $199.99 the parts count is strong, including a GaN 48V/5A supply. Just feed both channels and give it some ventilation.
- Best for
- Building or upgrading a 2.1 desktop or shelf system where a subwoofer needs a full-range pre-out and the main speakers benefit from a high-pass
- Skip if
- You want a pre-out that is also high-passed, or you need the VU display to work from the right channel alone
Why 3.8/5: Lifted by a full parameter list, a published output table and a clear FAQ, with a 48V/5A adapter in the box. Held back by a 300W x 2 headline that the page's own table puts at 120W+120W at 4Ω, and by a $199.99 price against $109.99 for an A5 on a 48V/5A supply.
The Ampapa D1 is a stereo power amplifier priced at $199.99, a collaboration between Ampapa and Douk Audio built on the Douk Audio A5 platform. It keeps the A5's core features — TPA3255 chip, high-pass filter, PRE-OUT and socketed op-amps — and adds a digital VU display, TRS balanced input, Bluetooth 5.2, treble/bass control and a remote.
The feature that sets it apart is 2.1 system support. The adjustable high-pass filter (30-200Hz) removes low frequencies from the speaker output so the stereo speakers focus on mids and highs with better clarity, while the PRE-OUT sends a full-range signal to active subwoofers, amplifiers or active speakers. The maker confirms the high-pass applies only to the speaker output and that PRE-OUT volume and tone are synchronized with the speaker output.
The display is a highlight: a vibrant OLED with 7 VU styles in classic yellow, blue or black, giving real-time feedback on all operations and playback. Inside, two pluggable NE5532 op-amps are accessible through the top glass panel for easy upgrades, supported by an NJW1194 chip, SAGAMI inductors, a 2oz copper PCB and a GaN 48V/5A power adapter. Daily use is well covered too — a 12V trigger, infrared remote, one-touch mute, Bluetooth reset and ±10dB tone control, with internal RGB lighting for atmosphere.
One display quirk to know: in dual VU meter mode both meters show left and right levels separately, but in single VU meter and spectrum modes the D1 only detects the left channel, so the meter will not move if only the right channel is connected. The amp also gets hot during operation, which the maker attributes to the TPA3255 dissipating heat through the chassis contact.

How it compares
The D1 costs $199.99 with its 48V/5A GaN adapter in the box. The Douk Audio A5 it is built on costs $89.99 with a 32V/5A supply or $109.99 with a 48V/5A one, so on a 48V/5A supply the D1 costs $90.00 more. Both pages list a TPA3255 chip, a 30-200Hz high-pass filter and a 300W x 2 headline at 4Ω. What the extra money adds, per the pages: Bluetooth 5.2, a balanced TRS input beside RCA, ±10dB bass and treble, a remote, a 12V trigger and an OLED VU display. The A5 page lists stereo RCA in only. The D1 page says its filter does not touch the PRE-OUT, which stays full-range; the A5 page does not say whether its filter reaches the 3.5mm AUX output.
For Bluetooth and a headphone jack without the 2.1 filter, the Douk Audio A5 PRO is the cheaper route at $114.99 with a 32V/5A adapter ($134.99 with a 48V/5A one): Bluetooth 5.1, a 500mW at 32Ω headphone output and ±6dB bass and treble knobs, though its page lists neither a high-pass filter nor a remote. The Douk Audio G7 at $299.99 is $100.00 above the D1. It adds a second TPA3255 chip (300W x 2, or 150W x 4 on four channels), an internal 48V/10A supply on AC 100-240V, XLR and TRS combo plus RCA inputs and two switchable speaker outputs, but its page lists no Bluetooth. The G7 page gives its figures without an output table, unlike the D1, A5 and A5 PRO pages. Who it suits: the D1 fits a desk or shelf 2.1 system that wants wireless playback, a high-passed speaker output and a full-range feed for a powered subwoofer. The A5 is the budget route to the same filter over RCA. The G7 suits two speaker pairs, or one high-power pair, fed by a wired DAC or streamer.
Shipping, returns and warranty
- Shipping: Douk Audio's current shipping page says orders are generally processed no later than the next business day and arrive in 2-8 business days, with duties, taxes and customs fees included in the checkout price unless noted otherwise.
- Older shipping terms are still online: airmail at 10-25 days for parcels under 2 kg, DHL, UPS or FedEx at 5-8 days above that, and a line saying the store is not responsible for import duties. Check the delivery estimate and any duties at checkout.
- Returns: ask within 30 days of delivery and wait for approval before sending anything; an approved return has to ship within 7 days. Items need all packaging and accessories and no excessive wear, or the store can refuse them or refund part of the price. Refunds go to the original payment method after inspection.
- Not refunded: original and expedited shipping, duties, taxes and customs charges, unless the law requires it or the store made the error. The return page does not say who pays return postage, and the older refund page excludes mistaken orders and change-of-mind returns from free after-sale service.
- Warranty: 24 months from purchase for manufacturing defects, with free repair, a replacement unit and free shipping both ways for covered repairs. Drops, liquid, DIY repairs, lightning, extreme temperatures and misuse are excluded (partial fees may apply), and damage from weak packing on the way back may not be covered. The older refund page still says 1 year.
- Seller: the site is run by Shenzhen Anba Technology Co., Ltd (Shenzhen, China) and HONGKONG LONGSHENG Import and Export Trading Co., Limited (Hong Kong); support is by email at [email protected]. These terms cover orders placed on doukaudio.com; other sellers apply their own.
For this product, the page lists shipping from US, UK, EU, AU and China and shows Free Shipping, 2-8 Days Arrival, 30-Day Return and 2-Year Warranty badges near the price.
What we liked
- The 30-200Hz adjustable high-pass frees the main speakers from deep bass so they can play mids and highs more cleanly
- PRE-OUT stays full-range, so an active subwoofer (or a second amp or active speaker) gets the complete signal
- Balanced TRS input and Bluetooth 5.2 cover desk sources and wireless playback
- Two pluggable NE5532 op-amps sit behind the top glass panel for easy upgrades, alongside premium parts like the NJW1194 chip and SAGAMI inductors
- OLED display with 7 VU styles, plus ±10dB tone control, 12V trigger, remote, one-touch mute and internal RGB lighting
Worth noting
- In single VU meter and spectrum modes the D1 only detects the left channel, so with only the right channel connected the display will not operate
- The TPA3255 chip runs warm and the amp becomes hot in normal use as heat dissipates through the chassis
- Op-amp swaps require care — power off first and check orientation before powering back on, as the maker advises
Questions before you buy
Can I replace the op-amps in the D1?
Yes. It uses 2 pluggable NE5532 op-amps that can be replaced by standard dual op-amps such as 2604, 2134 or Muse02. Before replacing, turn off the power, ensure correct orientation, and power on only after confirming proper installation.
Does the high-pass filter affect the PRE-OUT?
No. The high-pass filter applies only to the speaker output; the PRE-OUT delivers a full-range signal to subwoofers, amplifiers or active speakers. Pre-out volume and tone controls are synchronized with the speaker output.
Is it normal for the D1 to get hot?
Yes, the TPA3255 amplifier chip dissipates heat through contact with the chassis, so the amp becomes warm or hot during operation — this is described as normal behavior for the design.
What are the shipping and warranty terms?
Douk Audio ships to nearly 200 countries from several warehouses; its shipping page lists 2-8 business days for delivery, with duties, taxes and customs fees included in the checkout price unless noted. Its warranty page covers manufacturing defects for 24 months from purchase.

What we couldn’t verify
- Power: the page headlines 300W x 2 at 4Ω (and 'up to 300W×2 peak'), but its own output table lists 120W+120W at 4Ω and 102W+102W at 8Ω on the 48V/5A adapter in the box. No distortion level is stated for the headline figure.
- The page says '7 VU styles' in one place and 'cycle through 8 vivid VU and spectrum modes' in another; the review uses 7.
- The page calls aptX HD 'lossless' and quotes a '15m+ range' for Bluetooth, with no test conditions; neither claim could be checked.
- The review's Inputs row listed only balanced TRS and Bluetooth 5.2; the page's Parameters also list RCA, so that row now names all three inputs.
- 'PFFB technology eliminates load dependency' and the parts-for-sonic-purity lines are maker claims; the page gives no measurement setup for its THD+N 0.002% and SNR 114dB figures.
- The page lists shipping from US, UK, EU, AU and China but not which plug the 48V/5A adapter has for each; the remote's AAA x 2 batteries may not be included, per the page's FAQ.
- Heat: the FAQ calls a hot chassis normal with no effect on performance or lifespan, and gives no temperatures or run times; it advises a ventilated spot and no stacking.
