Our verdict

The Douk Audio P7 covers both halves of an analog front end for $109.99: an MM phono stage with a 20Hz high-pass filter for cleaner vinyl, and a tube line preamp with PSVANE ECC83 tubes run at 180V for warmth on digital sources. RCA and true balanced XLR outputs run simultaneously with shared volume and tone, and the 3 pluggable NE5532 op-amps invite upgrades. It is a strong fit for a vinyl-plus-streaming system.

Why 3.7/5: Lifted by XLR and RCA outputs, a 20Hz rumble filter, swappable ECC83 tubes and op-amps, printed noise and distortion figures and an adapter in the box. Held back by MM-only phono, no headphone output and a 'distortion-free' claim next to a printed 0.1% THD+N.

The Douk Audio P7 is a tube phono preamp and stereo pre-amplifier priced at $109.99. It serves two roles: a phono stage for turntables and a tube preamp for line sources such as phones, TVs and CD players, adding warmth while bringing out detail.

On the vinyl side, the integrated high-pass filter (available only with the phono input) cuts subsonic noise below 20Hz, reducing distortion and making records play with less rumble and better dynamics. The tube stage uses brand-new PSVANE ECC83 tubes driven at 180V, which the maker says unlocks the warmth and harmonic depth the design is built around; they can be swapped for PSVANE 12AX7-S, Shuguang 12AX7B, 7025 or other 12AX7 types.

Outputs are flexible: standard RCA plus a true balanced XLR output that reduces noise and improves dynamic range for amplifiers and active speakers, with both outputs running at the same time under shared volume and tone control. Bass and treble knobs allow custom tuning, and a bypass mode restores the pure, unaltered signal. Three pluggable NE5532 op-amps can be replaced with other dual op-amps such as 2604, 2134 or MUSES02 — power down before swapping, since the unit carries high voltage inside.

Two setup notes pay off in practice. If your turntable has a built-in phono preamp, connect it to the RCA input rather than the phono input to avoid unwanted noise. And the high-pass filter is active only in phono input mode. The P7 operates on DC 12V at 2A or more, and its packing list includes a DC 12V power adapter.

How it compares

At the same $109.99 as the Douk Audio T4 PLUS Tube Phono Preamp review and the Douk Audio T12 Tube Phono Preamp (MM/MC) review, the P7 is the one for an MM cartridge, a balanced XLR output and a 20Hz rumble filter. Both rivals take MC cartridges as well and add a headphone output: the T4 PLUS through a seven-position input impedance switch, a VU meter and JAN5725 tubes, the T12 through 47kΩ MM and 150Ω MC inputs, ±10dB bass and treble sliders and 6J5B-Q tubes run at 120V. Neither page lists an XLR output or a high-pass filter.

The Douk Audio H5 Tube MM Phono Preamp with Sub Out review ($89.99, $20.00 less) shares the P7's filter, tone range and op-amp socket, adds a subwoofer output but no XLR output, and prints higher distortion on the line input (THD+N of 0.5% against the P7's 0.1%). Choose the P7 for balanced outputs to an amplifier or active speakers from an MM turntable; choose the T4 PLUS or T12 for an MC cartridge or headphones; choose the H5 for a subwoofer feed.

Shipping, returns and warranty

  • Shipping: Douk Audio's current shipping page says orders are generally processed no later than the next business day and arrive in 2-8 business days, with duties, taxes and customs fees included in the checkout price unless noted otherwise.
  • Older shipping terms are still online: airmail at 10-25 days for parcels under 2 kg, DHL, UPS or FedEx at 5-8 days above that, and a line saying the store is not responsible for import duties. Check the delivery estimate and any duties at checkout.
  • Returns: ask within 30 days of delivery and wait for approval before sending anything; an approved return has to ship within 7 days. Items need all packaging and accessories and no excessive wear, or the store can refuse them or refund part of the price. Refunds go to the original payment method after inspection.
  • Not refunded: original and expedited shipping, duties, taxes and customs charges, unless the law requires it or the store made the error. The return page does not say who pays return postage, and the older refund page excludes mistaken orders and change-of-mind returns from free after-sale service.
  • Warranty: 24 months from purchase for manufacturing defects, with free repair, a replacement unit and free shipping both ways for covered repairs. Drops, liquid, DIY repairs, lightning, extreme temperatures and misuse are excluded (partial fees may apply), and damage from weak packing on the way back may not be covered. The older refund page still says 1 year.
  • Seller: the site is run by Shenzhen Anba Technology Co., Ltd (Shenzhen, China) and HONGKONG LONGSHENG Import and Export Trading Co., Limited (Hong Kong); support is by email at [email protected]. These terms cover orders placed on doukaudio.com; other sellers apply their own.

For this product, the page has a 'Shipping to' selector (US, UK, EU, AU, Other) and shows Free Shipping, 2-8 Days Arrival, 30-Day Return and 2-Year Warranty badges near the price.

What we liked

  • Two preamps in one: a phono stage for turntables and a tube line preamp for phones, TVs and CD players
  • True balanced XLR output alongside RCA reduces noise and widens the soundstage for amps and active speakers
  • The high-pass filter cuts subsonic noise below 20Hz on vinyl, reducing rumble and distortion in records
  • PSVANE ECC83 tubes driven at 180V aim to unlock the full potential of the analog stage
  • Tone controls with a bypass mode, plus 3 pluggable NE5532 op-amps for easy upgrades

Worth noting

  • The high-pass filter only operates in phono input mode — it is not available on the RCA input
  • It is an MM phono stage; no moving-coil setting is listed
  • There is no headphone output (the page lists RCA and XLR outputs only), and its 'distortion-free' wording sits next to a printed THD+N of 0.1% on the RCA input

Questions before you buy

Can I connect a turntable directly to the P7?

Yes, via the phono input and the P7's MM phono stage. Before connecting, check if your turntable has a built-in phono preamp — if so, use the RCA input instead to avoid unwanted noise.

Is the high-pass filter active in RCA input mode?

No. The high-pass filter is only available in phono input mode, where it cuts subsonic noise below 20Hz.

Can I swap the tubes and op-amps?

Yes. The PSVANE ECC83 tubes can be replaced with PSVANE 12AX7-S, Shuguang 12AX7B, 7025 or 12AX7 types (power off first), and the 3 pluggable NE5532 op-amps can be replaced with other dual op-amps such as 2604, 2134 or MUSES02.

What are the shipping and warranty terms?

Douk Audio ships to nearly 200 countries from several warehouses; its shipping page lists 2-8 business days for delivery, with duties, taxes and customs fees included in the checkout price unless noted. Its warranty page covers manufacturing defects for 24 months from purchase.

What we couldn’t verify

  • The packing list names a 'DC 12V Power Adapter ×1' without a current rating; the page specifies the input as DC 12V ≥2A.
  • The page promises 'distortion-free' sound from the XLR output but prints THD+N of 0.03% (phono) and 0.1% (RCA), with no XLR figure and no test level.
  • SNR of 109dB or better (RCA) and 82dB or better (phono) come with no weighting or level; 'crystal-clear' and 'wider soundstage' are page claims.
  • 'True balanced' XLR output is a page claim; the page names no circuit and gives rated levels only (XLR 1V on phono, 4V on line).
  • The page lists an MM phono input only; no MC setting or input impedance is given.
