Our verdict

The T13 packs an MM phono stage, a stereo line preamp and a headphone amp into a $99.99 desktop unit with a customizable full-color VU meter on the front. The numbers are solid for the price: 106dB-plus SNR on line, 16-300 ohm headphone support, and a 100K input with power isolation to keep noise out. Two things to plan for: bring your own 5V USB adapter, and remember that the headphone jack takes priority over the RCA output.

The Douk Audio T13 is a compact desktop preamp priced at $99.99 that handles three jobs at once: it converts a moving-magnet turntable signal to line level, amplifies line-level sources, and drives headphones from a 3.5mm jack. It measures 178 x 118 x 55mm and weighs 730g, and its CNC-machined aluminum panel carries gold-plated RCA terminals and durable adjustment knobs.

Inputs are stereo RCA and phono MM, matching turntables, phones, computers and CD players. Outputs are stereo RCA for amplifiers or active speakers plus a 3.5mm headphone jack rated to drive any 16-300 ohm headphone, with output power of 250mW at 32 ohm, 100mW at 64 ohm and 60mW at 128 ohm. On paper the T13 reaches 106dB or better signal-to-noise on the RCA path, 80dB or better on phono, THD of 0.1% or less, and phono response within plus or minus 2dB of the RIAA curve.

The front panel carries a customized full-color VU meter whose backlight color and brightness adjust steplessly, with a dedicated meter driver chip for accurate pointer movement. The built-in AGC algorithm keeps the display readable whether the input signal is low or high, avoiding the blank-or-pegged behavior of simple meters. Inside, a 100K high-impedance input and power-isolation circuits prevent common-ground noise even when the T13 shares a power source with a player. Power comes over USB Type-C at DC 5V with at least 0.6A, so a power bank, phone charger or computer port works fine.

Two operating notes come straight from Douk Audio: the headphone output has priority over the RCA output, so unplug your headphones to get sound at the RCA jacks, and the VU meter displays the level of the input source, meaning the volume knob will not change the pointer's swing range. As mentioned, the box ships without a power adapter.

What we liked

  • Three jobs in one $99.99 box: MM phono stage, stereo line preamp and headphone amplifier
  • Strong measured specs: 106dB-plus SNR on the RCA path, 80dB-plus on phono, and THD of 0.1% or less
  • Full-color VU meter with stepless color and brightness adjustment and a dedicated driver chip for accurate pointer movement
  • 100K high-impedance input and power-isolation circuits keep common-ground noise out even when sharing a power source
  • Aluminum CNC-machined panel and gold-plated RCA terminals built for long service life

Worth noting

  • No DC 5V power adapter is included, so it needs a USB supply delivering at least 0.6A
  • The headphone output takes priority: you must disconnect headphones before the RCA output will play
  • The phono stage is MM only, so moving-coil cartridges are not supported

Questions before you buy

Will the T13 work with my turntable?

It has a Phono MM input for moving-magnet cartridges, with frequency response within plus or minus 2dB of the RIAA curve and 0.005V RMS input level. Moving-coil cartridges are not supported.

Does it drive high-impedance headphones?

Yes. The 3.5mm headphone output is rated for 16-300 ohm headphones and delivers 250mW at 32 ohm, 100mW at 64 ohm and 60mW at 128 ohm.

Why is there no sound from the RCA output?

The headphone output has priority. Disconnect the headphones from the jack and the stereo RCA output will play normally.

What is the return and warranty policy?

Douk Audio offers a 30-day free return or full refund and a 1-year warranty. Exclusions include orders placed by mistake, man-made damage or misuse, and subjective change of mind.
