Our verdict

The EQ7 is a $119.99 stereo equalizer and preamp for listeners who want hands-on tone shaping: seven bands from 32Hz to 10kHz with +/-10dB, a volume knob and dual VU meters. Its standout trick is actively converting RCA sources to a true balanced XLR output with opposite-phase signals, so classic RCA gear can feed balanced amplifiers through a cleaner path, and RCA and XLR outputs stay live simultaneously. There is no dedicated bypass - center positions only approximate one - and the two output types always carry the same signal.

Best for
HiFi listeners who want a graphic equalizer with a real balanced XLR output stage to feed balanced amps or powered speakers.
Skip if
You need a true bypass switch, independent switching between RCA and XLR outputs, or parametric EQ control.

Why 3.7/5: Lifted by a detailed parameter list (levels, impedances, gain), true balanced XLR conversion, dual VU meters and an adapter in the box. Held back by no THD or SNR figure, no true bypass and a higher price than the 7-band T7.

The Douk Audio EQ7 is a 7-band stereo equalizer and preamp priced at $119.99. It slots into a HiFi chain to tailor sound to your speakers, music and room, offering seven adjustable bands from 32Hz to 10kHz with +/-10dB per band so you can add or trim bass weight, vocal body and treble detail.

Its distinguishing feature is balanced conversion: the EQ7 takes an RCA input and actively converts it into a true balanced XLR output with positive and inverted signal phases. That bridges classic RCA sources - DACs, CD players, streamers - with balanced HiFi amplifiers and powered speakers through a cleaner, lower-noise signal path. RCA and XLR outputs both carry the EQ-tuned signal simultaneously, and a volume knob keeps final level control close at hand.

Two large analog VU meters follow the music with brightness, speed and gain controls so you can match the meter response to your source level. Around the back there is rear-panel VU sensitivity and range adjustment if the needle response is too strong or weak. The compact chassis uses a CNC-machined aluminum front panel, aluminum body and gold-plated I/O connectors, and it fits desktop, bookshelf or rack systems. Power comes from the included USB-C adapter; Douk Audio advises using that included power supply rather than a substitute.

How it compares

At $119.99 the EQ7 is one of three 7-band equalizers with balanced XLR in this group. The Douk Audio T7 costs $99.99, which is $20.00 less, with 7 bands from 64Hz to 8kHz at ±6dB, where the EQ7 spans 32Hz to 10kHz at ±10dB. The T7 page lists a THD (total harmonic distortion) of 0.003% and an SNR (signal-to-noise ratio) of at least 104dB, a 12V adapter, no volume knob and a 152 x 126 x 42mm case; the EQ7 page prints no THD or SNR, has a volume knob, takes 5V over USB-C and adds dual VU meters in a taller 163 x 107 x 82mm case. The Douk Audio T8PRO at $123.49, which is $3.50 more than the EQ7, spans 50Hz to 16kHz on 7 bands and adds a pluggable tube stage (two 6H1N-BN tubes) and a balance control, with a THD of 0.01% and an SNR of at least 98dB on a 12V supply of 2A or more.

Who it suits: the EQ7 is for a listener who wants a wider ±10dB range, meters and a volume knob in front of a balanced amplifier or powered speakers, and who is happy with a 0dB center setting rather than a bypass switch. Skip it if you need a true bypass: the page says there is none and calls the all-bands-at-0dB position a near-bypass. The T7 is the cheaper of the three and the only one whose page says it bypasses when powered off; the T8PRO is the pick if you want to roll tubes.

Shipping, returns and warranty

  • Shipping: Douk Audio's current shipping page says orders are generally processed no later than the next business day and arrive in 2-8 business days, with duties, taxes and customs fees included in the checkout price unless noted otherwise.
  • Older shipping terms are still online: airmail at 10-25 days for parcels under 2 kg, DHL, UPS or FedEx at 5-8 days above that, and a line saying the store is not responsible for import duties. Check the delivery estimate and any duties at checkout.
  • Returns: ask within 30 days of delivery and wait for approval before sending anything; an approved return has to ship within 7 days. Items need all packaging and accessories and no excessive wear, or the store can refuse them or refund part of the price. Refunds go to the original payment method after inspection.
  • Not refunded: original and expedited shipping, duties, taxes and customs charges, unless the law requires it or the store made the error. The return page does not say who pays return postage, and the older refund page excludes mistaken orders and change-of-mind returns from free after-sale service.
  • Warranty: 24 months from purchase for manufacturing defects, with free repair, a replacement unit and free shipping both ways for covered repairs. Drops, liquid, DIY repairs, lightning, extreme temperatures and misuse are excluded (partial fees may apply), and damage from weak packing on the way back may not be covered. The older refund page still says 1 year.
  • Seller: the site is run by Shenzhen Anba Technology Co., Ltd (Shenzhen, China) and HONGKONG LONGSHENG Import and Export Trading Co., Limited (Hong Kong); support is by email at [email protected]. These terms cover orders placed on doukaudio.com; other sellers apply their own.

For this product, the page lists shipping from US, UK, EU, AU and China and shows Free Shipping, 2-8 Days Arrival, 30-Day Return and 2-Year Warranty badges near the price.

What we liked

  • Seven adjustable bands from 32Hz to 10kHz with +/-10dB let you shape bass weight, vocal body and treble detail
  • Actively converts RCA input into a true balanced XLR output with positive and inverted signal phases
  • Both RCA and XLR outputs share the EQ-tuned signal at the same time, feeding two destinations without re-cabling
  • Dual large VU meters add a retro visual, with brightness, speed and gain controls to tune the response
  • Onboard volume knob, gold-plated connectors and a compact CNC aluminum chassis

Worth noting

  • There is no dedicated bypass switch - Douk Audio notes that setting all bands to center (0dB) only approximates a bypass
  • The RCA and XLR outputs cannot be switched independently; both always carry the same EQ-processed signal
  • It is a fixed 7-band graphic EQ, so there is no parametric control or adjustable center frequencies

Questions before you buy

Is the XLR output on the EQ7 true balanced?

Yes. Douk Audio states a dedicated circuit converts the processed audio into a true balanced XLR output with opposite-phase signals to help minimize noise and maintain signal integrity.

Does the EQ7 support simultaneous RCA and XLR output?

Yes. Whether the input is RCA or XLR, the signal is EQ-processed and then output through both RCA and XLR at the same time - the two outputs cannot be switched independently.

Does the EQ7 have a bypass function?

There is no dedicated bypass switch. Setting all EQ controls to the center position (0dB) achieves a near-bypass effect with no gain or attenuation applied.

What should I do if the VU meter response is too strong or weak?

Adjust the VU meter sensitivity and range controls on the rear panel, fine-tuning while audio is playing to get the display effect you want.

What we couldn’t verify

  • 'True balanced', 'cleaner, lower-noise signal path' and 'better signal integrity' are page claims; the page lists no THD, SNR or common-mode rejection figure to back them.
  • Frequency response 20Hz-20kHz carries no ±dB tolerance, and the 8Vrms maximum output is given at a 600Ω load only.
  • The feature text says sources can be switched 'without repeated cable changes', but the page does not show how RCA and XLR inputs are selected; its FAQ says both outputs always carry the same signal.
  • The page says setting all bands to 0dB gives a 'near-bypass effect' with no gain or attenuation, without a flatness figure.
  • Power: the page says to use the included 5V adapter and avoid fast-charging adapters, but names neither its plug type for each shipping region nor its current rating (the unit needs 5V at 1A or more).
  • Warranty: the 2-Year Warranty badge is all this product page says about cover; exclusions are on the store's warranty page (see the shared section).
