Our verdict

At $123.49, the T8PRO treats equalization as the main event: seven frequency bands from 50Hz to 16kHz, plus a balance control and a tube stage for warmth. The balanced XLR path in and out, 0.01% THD and 98dB-plus SNR give it a studio-adjacent feature set for the price. Tube rollers will appreciate the pluggable 6H1N-BN sockets, though swapping to 6SN7GT needs a socket adapter, and both outputs can feed two systems simultaneously.

Best for
Audiophiles who want true multi-band tone shaping and balanced XLR connectivity with a warm, tube-rollable line stage.
Skip if
You need a phono stage or digital inputs; the T8PRO is a pure analog line preamp.

Why 3.8/5: Lifted by pluggable tubes with listed replacements, seven bands with a balance control, balanced XLR and RCA on both sides, and a full parameter list. Held back by the highest price of the seven equalizers, THD and SNR that trail the T7's, and no volume-knob information.

The Douk Audio T8PRO is a line-level tube preamp and equalizer priced at $123.49, sized to sit on a desk or shelf at 186 x 128 x 38mm. It is an analog preamp in the classic sense: no phono stage, no digital inputs, just tone shaping, tube color and volume duties for a power amplifier or active speakers.

The equalizer is the headline. Seven knobs cover 50Hz, 125Hz, 315Hz, 750Hz, 2kHz, 6kHz and 16kHz, letting you correct the frequency response of a speaker or sound field rather than settle for a simple bass-and-treble tilt. A balance control compensates the left and right channels across all outputs to keep the center image anchored. When a knob sits on its center detent, that band is left untouched, which makes it easy to zero the EQ.

The tube stage uses a classic pluggable Soviet 6H1N-BN tube, and Douk Audio describes the sound as warm, delicate, full and mellow. Because the sockets are pluggable, you can roll tubes for different flavors: 6N1 and 6AQ8 drop straight in, while 6SN7GT needs a 6SN7-to-6N1 socket adapter. Electronically, the T8PRO is fully balanced when using XLR, with separate input sensitivities of 0.775Vrms (RCA) and 1.5Vrms (BAL), outputs of 1.2Vrms and 2.4Vrms respectively, a 20Hz-20kHz response within plus or minus 1dB, THD of 0.01% and SNR of 98dB or better. The chassis uses an electrolytic iron plate for shielding in a black aluminum case, and RCA and XLR outputs can work simultaneously.

The package runs on DC 12V at 2A or more and ships with the preamp, two 6H1N-BN tubes and a 12V power adapter per the packing list. Color options cover black and silver.

How it compares

At $123.49 the T8PRO is the priciest of the group's seven equalizers and the only one with a tube stage: two pluggable 6H1N-BN tubes, with 6N1 and 6AQ8 listed as replacements (the page text adds ECC85, the store's description adds 6SN7GT with a socket adapter). It lists 7 bands from 50Hz to 16kHz, balanced XLR and RCA in and out, a balance control and a 12V supply of 2A or more, with a THD (total harmonic distortion) of 0.01% and an SNR (signal-to-noise ratio) of at least 98dB. The Douk Audio T7 costs $99.99, which is $23.50 less, and lists 7 bands from 64Hz to 8kHz at ±6dB, a THD of 0.003% and an SNR of at least 104dB, so the T7 is ahead on the stated numbers. The Douk Audio EQ7 costs $119.99, which is $3.50 less than the T8PRO, with 7 bands from 32Hz to 10kHz at ±10dB, dual VU meters, a volume knob and a USB-C 5V supply, but no tube stage and no THD or SNR figure.

Who it suits: the T8PRO is for a listener who wants tone shaping and the option to roll tubes in front of an amplifier or active speakers, and who accepts weaker stated THD and SNR than the T7 for the tube character the maker describes as warm and delicate, full and mellow. Skip it if you need a phono stage or digital inputs, or published figures as strong as the T7's.

Shipping, returns and warranty

  • Shipping: Douk Audio's current shipping page says orders are generally processed no later than the next business day and arrive in 2-8 business days, with duties, taxes and customs fees included in the checkout price unless noted otherwise.
  • Older shipping terms are still online: airmail at 10-25 days for parcels under 2 kg, DHL, UPS or FedEx at 5-8 days above that, and a line saying the store is not responsible for import duties. Check the delivery estimate and any duties at checkout.
  • Returns: ask within 30 days of delivery and wait for approval before sending anything; an approved return has to ship within 7 days. Items need all packaging and accessories and no excessive wear, or the store can refuse them or refund part of the price. Refunds go to the original payment method after inspection.
  • Not refunded: original and expedited shipping, duties, taxes and customs charges, unless the law requires it or the store made the error. The return page does not say who pays return postage, and the older refund page excludes mistaken orders and change-of-mind returns from free after-sale service.
  • Warranty: 24 months from purchase for manufacturing defects, with free repair, a replacement unit and free shipping both ways for covered repairs. Drops, liquid, DIY repairs, lightning, extreme temperatures and misuse are excluded (partial fees may apply), and damage from weak packing on the way back may not be covered. The older refund page still says 1 year.
  • Seller: the site is run by Shenzhen Anba Technology Co., Ltd (Shenzhen, China) and HONGKONG LONGSHENG Import and Export Trading Co., Limited (Hong Kong); support is by email at [email protected]. These terms cover orders placed on doukaudio.com; other sellers apply their own.

For this product, the page lists shipping to US, UK, EU, AU and Other (the Other option is priced $6.50 higher), offers Black and Silver, and shows Free Shipping, 2-8 Days Arrival, 30-Day Return and 2-Year Warranty badges near the price.

What we liked

  • Seven real EQ bands let you compensate for speaker and room shortcomings, not just a two-knob tone stack
  • Fully balanced XLR in and out alongside RCA, plus a balance control to center the stereo image
  • Soviet 6H1N-BN tubes sit in pluggable sockets for easy tube rolling, with 6SN7GT, 6N1 and 6AQ8 fittings possible
  • Strong measured numbers: THD of 0.01% and SNR of 98dB or better
  • XLR and RCA outputs can run at the same time, feeding two destinations at once

Worth noting

  • Fitting 6SN7GT tubes requires a separate 6SN7-to-6N1 socket adapter
  • The boost-and-cut knobs have a center detent; you must leave them at the middle position for a flat signal
  • Needs a DC 12V supply rated at 2A or more to perform as specified

Questions before you buy

What does the middle position on the EQ knobs mean?

When the scale line on a frequency knob points to the middle, that band is neither weakened nor strengthened. The knob has a detent there so you can zero the EQ by feel.

Which tubes can I use in the T8PRO?

It ships with 6H1N-BN tubes. 6N1 and 6AQ8 can be fitted directly, while 6SN7GT requires a 6SN7-to-6N1 socket adapter.

Can the RCA and XLR outputs work at the same time?

Yes. Douk Audio states that the two outputs (RCA and XLR) can work simultaneously.

What is the return and warranty policy?

Douk Audio's current policy pages give you 30 days from delivery to request a return, which Douk must approve before you send the item back (within 7 days of approval); original shipping fees and duties aren't refunded. Its warranty covers manufacturing defects for 24 months from purchase, with free repair or replacement.

What we couldn’t verify

  • Price depends on the 'Shipping to' option: $123.49 for US, UK, EU and AU, $129.99 for Other, in both Black and Silver. The page's visible text shows only $123.49.
  • Tubes: the page text lists ECC85, 6N1 and 6AQ8 as replacements; the store's product description lists 6SN7GT, 6N1 and 6AQ8 and says the 6SN7GT needs a 6SN7-to-6N1 socket adapter, which is what the review says. The page does not say which list is current.
  • 'Warm and delicate, full and mellow, dynamic and melodious' and 'excellent separation, resolution, sound field, clean background' are page claims; THD 0.01% and SNR 98dB come with no test setup.
  • The title says '[Upgraded] T8PRO', the Parameters say T8PRO and the feature text says 'T8'; the page does not say what was upgraded.
  • The page does not say whether the T8PRO has a volume knob (the T7 page says it has none) or how long the tubes are expected to last.
  • Power: the page lists DC 12V at 2A or more and a 12V adapter in the box, but not the adapter's plug type for each shipping region.
  • Warranty: the 2-Year Warranty badge is all this product page says about cover; it does not say whether the two tubes are covered. Exclusions are on the store's warranty page (see the shared section).
