Our verdict

The EQ5 is a $64.99 five-band equalizer that treats each frequency band to its own JRC4558 op-amp, from 100Hz to 10kHz, with plus or minus 10dB of range. A bypass button restores the untouched signal at any time, and gold-plated RCA and 3.5mm connections keep the path clean. It is small, USB-C powered and ready for a desk or a car, as long as you give it a dedicated 5V supply and connect one input type at a time.

Best for
Listeners who want hands-on 5-band EQ control and a bypass switch in a compact box that works in a home rack or a car.

You want digital EQ with presets, or you plan to daisy-chain it off your computer's USB port.

Why 3.7/5: Lifted by a low $64.99 price for five separate op-amp bands, a bypass button and a full parameter list. Held back by no adapter in the box (the Features say no separate supply is needed, the Warm tips say otherwise) and no SNR figure.

The Douk Audio EQ5 is a mini 5-band EQ preamp and equalizer priced at $64.99, sized for both home and car audio setups at just 120 x 60 x 38mm, and weighing 224g. It sits between your source and amplifier, shaping the signal as it passes through.

The design uses five JRC4558 op-amps, one responsible for each frequency band, so 100Hz, 400Hz, 800Hz, 4kHz and 10kHz are each processed independently with a dedicated control knob. Gain range is plus or minus 10dB. When you want the untouched signal, the bypass button routes audio straight from input to output without any processing. Even bypass mode works without power connected. The measured specs are strong for the class: frequency response of 5Hz-154kHz, THD of 0.003% at 1kHz, 50K ohm input impedance and a 47 ohm output impedance.

Connections cover stereo RCA and 3.5mm AUX on both input and output, all gold-plated to keep connections tight and transmission smooth, with a gold-plated PCB panel and aluminum knurled knobs inside an all-metal case. Power comes over USB Type-C at DC 5V with at least 500mA.

Douk Audio attaches two important operating notes. First, do not power the EQ5 from the USB port of a computer or share its supply with the audio source, or common-ground noise will result; use a separate USB power supply. Second, the RCA and 3.5mm inputs are connected in parallel, so the two inputs and outputs work simultaneously and you should not connect RCA and 3.5mm input at the same time to avoid mixing. The package includes the EQ5, a USB Type-C cable, four rubber feet and a manual.

How it compares

At $64.99 the EQ5 Mini is the smallest of the three 5-band equalizers in this group, at 120 x 60 x 38mm and 224g. The Douk Audio EQ5-TONE is 164 x 108 x 82mm and 730g, costs $89.99 (which is $25.00 more) and adds Bluetooth 5.0, twin 45mm VU meters and L/R balance. Both pages list five bands, a bypass mode and a THD (total harmonic distortion) of 0.003% at 1kHz, and both want DC 5V at 500mA or more over USB Type-C with no adapter in the box. They differ on the figures around that: the EQ5 Mini lists a frequency response of 5Hz-154kHz and a 47Ω output impedance, the EQ5-TONE 5Hz-20kHz and 15Ω.

The Nobsound EQ9 costs $49.99, which is $15.00 less than the EQ5 Mini. It spreads 9 bands from 20Hz to 16kHz at ±6dB each, lists a THD of 0.001% at 1kHz and an SNR (signal-to-noise ratio) of at least 111dB, and puts a DC12V adapter in the box. Its page lists two RCA input and output groups and no 3.5mm jacks, in a larger 220 x 65 x 21mm case. The EQ5 Mini has 5 bands, 3.5mm AUX as well as RCA, and the smaller body. Who it suits: the EQ5 Mini fits a desk, shelf or car setup where size matters and you already have a clean 5V USB supply; the EQ9 gives more bands and a stated SNR for less money if you have room for its 12V adapter; the EQ5-TONE is the pick if you also want Bluetooth and meters. Skip the EQ5 Mini if you want a stated SNR: its page gives none.

Shipping, returns and warranty

  • Shipping: Douk Audio's current shipping page says orders are generally processed no later than the next business day and arrive in 2-8 business days, with duties, taxes and customs fees included in the checkout price unless noted otherwise.
  • Older shipping terms are still online: airmail at 10-25 days for parcels under 2 kg, DHL, UPS or FedEx at 5-8 days above that, and a line saying the store is not responsible for import duties. Check the delivery estimate and any duties at checkout.
  • Returns: ask within 30 days of delivery and wait for approval before sending anything; an approved return has to ship within 7 days. Items need all packaging and accessories and no excessive wear, or the store can refuse them or refund part of the price. Refunds go to the original payment method after inspection.
  • Not refunded: original and expedited shipping, duties, taxes and customs charges, unless the law requires it or the store made the error. The return page does not say who pays return postage, and the older refund page excludes mistaken orders and change-of-mind returns from free after-sale service.
  • Warranty: 24 months from purchase for manufacturing defects, with free repair, a replacement unit and free shipping both ways for covered repairs. Drops, liquid, DIY repairs, lightning, extreme temperatures and misuse are excluded (partial fees may apply), and damage from weak packing on the way back may not be covered. The older refund page still says 1 year.
  • Seller: the site is run by Shenzhen Anba Technology Co., Ltd (Shenzhen, China) and HONGKONG LONGSHENG Import and Export Trading Co., Limited (Hong Kong); support is by email at [email protected]. These terms cover orders placed on doukaudio.com; other sellers apply their own.

For this product, the page lists shipping to US, UK, EU, AU and Other and shows Free Shipping, 2-8 Days Arrival, 30-Day Return and 2-Year Warranty badges near the price.

What we liked

  • Five dedicated JRC4558 op-amps, each processing one frequency band independently, instead of shared tone circuitry
  • Bypass button returns the signal from input to output untouched when you want the original sound
  • Gold-plated RCA and 3.5mm inputs and outputs plus a gold-plated PCB panel for the tightest connection
  • Handles 5Hz-154kHz with THD of 0.003% at 1kHz and a low 47 ohm output impedance
  • USB-C powered and small enough to move between a home system and a car setup

Worth noting

  • No power adapter is included, and Douk Audio warns against powering it from a computer USB port or sharing a supply with the audio source, which can cause common-ground noise
  • The RCA and 3.5mm inputs are wired in parallel, so connect one at a time to avoid mixing signals
  • Bypass mode works without power, but the EQ section needs its own DC 5V supply

Questions before you buy

Which frequencies can I adjust?

Five bands: 100Hz, 400Hz, 800Hz, 4kHz and 10kHz, each with its own knob and a gain range of plus or minus 10dB, processed by a dedicated JRC4558 op-amp per band.

Can I disable the equalization?

Yes. The bypass button turns off EQ preamplification and routes the signal directly from input to output without processing. Bypass works even without power connected.

How should I power the EQ5?

From its own USB Type-C supply at DC 5V / 500mA or more. Do not use a computer's USB port or share the supply with your audio source, as that can introduce common-ground noise.

What is the return and warranty policy?

Douk Audio's current policy pages give you 30 days from delivery to request a return, which Douk must approve before you send the item back (within 7 days of approval); original shipping fees and duties aren't refunded. Its warranty covers manufacturing defects for 24 months from purchase, with free repair or replacement.

What we couldn’t verify

  • Power: the Features say 'no need to bring a separate power supply', yet the packing list shows no adapter (EQ5, Type-C cable, 4 rubber feet, manual) and the Warm tips say 'Without power adapter' and call for a separate USB power supply; working voltage is DC 5V at 500mA or more.
  • Frequency response 5Hz-154kHz and THD 0.003% at 1kHz are the page's own figures, with no tolerance or test setup; the review's body calls them 'measured'. The EQ5-TONE page lists 5Hz-20kHz for the same THD.
  • The page names the JRC4558 op-amps but gives no SNR, channel-separation or insertion-loss figure, and says the gold-plated I/O 'minimizes the loss of the signal' without a number.
  • The title says home/car audio, but the page gives no car-specific power guidance: the Warm tips only say to use a separate USB supply, not a computer USB port or the audio source's own supply, and the working voltage is DC 5V (500mA or more).
  • Warranty: the 2-Year Warranty badge is all this product page says about cover; exclusions are on the store's warranty page (see the shared section).
