Our verdict

The P1 PLUS is the Swiss-army knife of Douk Audio's desktop line at $189.99: Bluetooth with LDAC and aptX-HD, a 384kHz/DSD256 USB DAC, a 100V tube stage, a 600-ohm-capable headphone amp and a USB-to-optical path, all behind a glowing VU meter and OLED screen. It is a lot of flexibility for the money, as long as you work within its quirks - coax and optical top out at 192kHz, and every analog output runs at once.

Best for
Desktop listeners who want Bluetooth, a USB DAC, a tube preamp and a headphone amp in one box with VU-meter looks.

You need to control which output plays - all analog outputs always run simultaneously on the P1 PLUS.

The Douk Audio P1 PLUS is a desktop audio hub priced at $189.99 that bundles four devices into one chassis: a Bluetooth receiver, a USB DAC, a tube preamp and a headphone amplifier. It wears vintage looks - customized pluggable VU meters, retro military-grade vacuum tubes and a clear OLED screen - over a CNC-molded aluminum body.

On the digital side, a QCC5125 Bluetooth chip supports aptX-HD and LDAC for wireless streaming up to 24-bit/96kHz, while the SA9137L USB chip and ESS9018K2M DAC handle PCM data up to 384kHz/32-bit and DSD256 over USB. The coaxial and optical inputs top out at PCM 192kHz/24-bit, and one handy extra: the P1 PLUS can act as a USB-to-optical converter, since the optical output works whenever the PC-USB input is active. The TPA6120 headphone amp chip powers headphones from 16 to 600 ohms.

The tube preamp stage elevates voltage to 100V so the vacuum tubes operate at their full potential, delivering what the maker calls crisp highs, lush mids and deep bass; the tube sockets are pluggable for tube rolling. Connectivity is extensive - Bluetooth, USB, coaxial, optical, stereo RCA and 3.5mm AUX in; optical, stereo RCA, 3.5mm AUX and 3.5mm headphone out - with tone knobs for bass and treble and a remote control that includes a Bluetooth reset button. Two behaviors to note: every analog output plays simultaneously regardless of the selected input, and the in-circuit OPA1656 plus two pluggable NE5532 op-amps offer further tuning options.

Douk Audio ships worldwide with free and expedited shipping options at varying cost by country. Packages under 2kg travel by airmail in roughly 10-25 days, while orders over 2kg ship via DHL/UPS/FedEx in about 5-8 days, and any import duties or customs charges are the customer's responsibility. Returns are free within 30 days for a full refund, and every item carries a 1-year warranty. Exclusions cover orders placed by mistake, man-made damage or misuse, a change of mind, and anything outside the warranty terms.

What we liked

  • One box covers Bluetooth receiver, USB DAC, tube preamp and headphone amp duties
  • ESS9018K2M DAC plus SA9137L USB chip decode PCM 384kHz/32-bit and DSD256 over USB
  • QCC5125 Bluetooth streams LDAC and aptX-HD at up to 24-bit/96kHz
  • TPA6120 headphone amp drives 16-600 ohm headphones, with an OPA1656 and 2 x pluggable NE5532 in the chain
  • Customized pluggable VU meters, retro vacuum tubes at a 100V stage, OLED screen, tone knobs and a remote with Bluetooth reset

Worth noting

  • Coaxial and optical inputs max out at PCM 192kHz/24-bit - only USB reaches 384kHz/32-bit and DSD256
  • All analog outputs play at once no matter which input is selected, which can surprise multi-amp setups
  • The optical output only works when the PC-USB input is active

Questions before you buy

Which input supports the highest resolution?

USB only - PCM up to 384kHz/32-bit and DSD256. Coaxial and optical inputs support up to PCM 192kHz/24-bit.

What Bluetooth codecs does it support?

The QCC5125 chip supports aptX-HD and LDAC, with a maximum transmission of 24-bit/96kHz.

Do all the outputs work at the same time?

All analog outputs work simultaneously no matter which input is selected; the optical output works only with the PC-USB input.

Can I roll the tubes?

Yes - the tube sockets are pluggable, designed for tube rolling and sound shaping.
