Our verdict

The TUBE-T5C packs a tube preamp, a four-way source selector, a two-way splitter and a headphone amplifier into one small box, finished with a VU meter and adjustable RGB glow. The 180V tube stage and 500mW headphone output look strong for the $109.99 price, and both the tube and op-amp sit in pluggable sockets for easy upgrades. Just remember every output plays at once with shared controls, and there is a short warm-up delay before sound appears.

Best for
Listeners juggling several RCA sources who want tube flavor, a VU meter and a headphone jack in one small unit.
Skip if
You need independent output volume or instant-on audio - all outputs share one control and the tube needs a warm-up.

Why 3.6/5: Lifted by four inputs, two outputs, a 500mW headphone stage and a VU meter in one box, with a full parameter list. Held back by $109.99 for a unit with no remote, a parameter list that names Nobsound under a Douk Audio title, and figures with no test conditions.

The Douk Audio TUBE-T5C is a compact tube preamp and switcher priced at $109.99. It accepts up to four RCA sources - CD players, DACs, streamers, Blu-ray players - lets you switch between them from the front panel, and sends the signal to two RCA outputs at once, so two amplifiers or two pairs of active speakers can stay permanently connected. A 3.5mm headphone jack turns it into a headphone amp as well.

The tube section runs at a boosted 180V from an isolated, metal-shielded power supply, which the maker says reduces interference for a cleaner and more stable audio signal. A single ECC83 tube glows behind a VU meter that pulses with the music, and adjustable internal RGB lighting adds to the vintage look. Bass and treble knobs provide plus or minus 6dB of tone shaping, and the headphone output delivers up to 500mW into 32 ohms for a wide range of headphones.

For tinkerers, both the NE5532 op-amp and the ECC83 tube sit in pluggable sockets. The op-amp can be swapped for dual types such as 2134, 2604, 5532, 2068 or Muse02, and the tube for PSVANE 12AX7-S or Shuguang 12AX7B, 7025 and 12AX7 types. Two practical notes: every output works at the same time and shares the same volume and tone settings, and the unit needs roughly 10 seconds to warm up before audio passes. Turn it off before swapping the op-amp or tube, as high voltage is present inside.

How it compares

The Douk Audio P1 PLUS Bluetooth Tube Preamp review ($189.99) is $80.00 more and also has a VU meter, a tube stage and a headphone output, but it is a source box: Bluetooth, USB DAC, coaxial, optical, RCA and AUX in, with up to 750mW and a 16-600Ω matched range. The TUBE-T5C is the analog switcher: four RCA inputs, two RCA outputs and 500mW into 32Ω for the same 16-600Ω range, but no DAC, no Bluetooth and no remote (its page lists none). Its page prints THD+N of 0.06% and SNR of 107dB or better, against THD of 0.1% and SNR of 106dB or better on the P1 PLUS page; THD+N and THD are different measures and neither page gives test conditions.

At $49.99 the Nobsound TUBE-T4C Stereo Vacuum Tube Preamp review is a bare tube stage: RCA in and out, bass and treble knobs, 2.5x voltage gain, no headphone output and no input selector, so it suits a single source. The T5C costs $60.00 more for four inputs, a second output, a VU meter and a headphone amp; its page also puts the tube at a boosted 180V, a figure the T4C page does not give. For headphones on a smaller budget, the Douk Audio P2 Mini Bluetooth Tube Preamp review ($73.99) lists 100mW into 32Ω for 16-64Ω headphones and adds Bluetooth, but has one RCA input instead of four. Pick the T5C if you switch between CD, DAC, streamer and Blu-ray players and want two amplifiers or two pairs of active speakers fed at once.

Shipping, returns and warranty

  • Shipping: Douk Audio's current shipping page says orders are generally processed no later than the next business day and arrive in 2-8 business days, with duties, taxes and customs fees included in the checkout price unless noted otherwise.
  • Older shipping terms are still online: airmail at 10-25 days for parcels under 2 kg, DHL, UPS or FedEx at 5-8 days above that, and a line saying the store is not responsible for import duties. Check the delivery estimate and any duties at checkout.
  • Returns: ask within 30 days of delivery and wait for approval before sending anything; an approved return has to ship within 7 days. Items need all packaging and accessories and no excessive wear, or the store can refuse them or refund part of the price. Refunds go to the original payment method after inspection.
  • Not refunded: original and expedited shipping, duties, taxes and customs charges, unless the law requires it or the store made the error. The return page does not say who pays return postage, and the older refund page excludes mistaken orders and change-of-mind returns from free after-sale service.
  • Warranty: 24 months from purchase for manufacturing defects, with free repair, a replacement unit and free shipping both ways for covered repairs. Drops, liquid, DIY repairs, lightning, extreme temperatures and misuse are excluded (partial fees may apply), and damage from weak packing on the way back may not be covered. The older refund page still says 1 year.
  • Seller: the site is run by Shenzhen Anba Technology Co., Ltd (Shenzhen, China) and HONGKONG LONGSHENG Import and Export Trading Co., Limited (Hong Kong); support is by email at [email protected]. These terms cover orders placed on doukaudio.com; other sellers apply their own.

For this product, the page has a 'Shipping to' selector (US, UK, EU, AU, Other) and shows Free Shipping, 2-8 Days Arrival, 30-Day Return and 2-Year Warranty badges near the price.

What we liked

  • Four RCA inputs with a front switch for quick source comparison, no cable swapping needed
  • Dual outputs can feed two amplifiers or two sets of active speakers simultaneously
  • Headphone amp with bass and treble controls gives up to 500mW at 32 ohms
  • Isolated, metal-shielded power section feeding a 180V tube stage for a cleaner signal
  • Pluggable op-amp socket and a replaceable ECC83 tube for easy sound tuning

Worth noting

  • All outputs run at the same time and share one volume/treble/bass setting - they cannot be controlled independently
  • Needs about 10 seconds of warm-up after power-on, with no audio during tube activation
  • Stock parts are a NE5532 op-amp and a basic ECC83 tube; upgraded op-amps or tubes are extra purchases

Questions before you buy

Can I connect a turntable directly?

The T5C has four RCA line inputs aimed at CD players, DACs, streamers and Blu-ray players; a turntable would need its own phono stage ahead of it.

Which tube and op-amp does it use?

It ships with one ECC83 tube and a pluggable NE5532 op-amp, both replaceable without soldering.

Do all the outputs work at once?

Yes - all outputs work simultaneously and the volume, treble and bass are controlled together.

Why is the VU meter needle barely moving?

The manufacturer suggests turning up the bass and the master volume to get more needle movement.

What we couldn’t verify

  • The page's parameter list says 'Brand: Nobsound' while its title and this review say Douk Audio.
  • THD+N 0.06%, SNR 107dB or better and 20Hz-20kHz (±0.8dB) come with no test level or load, and 500mW into 32Ω names no distortion level.
  • The page says the tube 'operates at a boosted 180V' and that an isolated, shielded supply reduces interference; it gives no measurement of either claim.
  • The packing list shows only the preamp, a DC 12V adapter and a hexagonal wrench, though the tips name a default ECC83 tube; it does not say whether RCA cables are included.
  • Power: a DC 12V adapter is in the box; the page gives no current rating or plug type.
