Our verdict

The P5 is Douk Audio's $79.99 take on a desktop tube headphone amp, and it covers a lot of ground: dual-mono circuits, a 200V tube stage, balanced 4.4mm and single-ended 6.35mm outputs, plus a preamp out for powered speakers. Tubes and op-amps both roll without soldering, so the sound is yours to tune. The main quirks are the output priority system - one jack at a time - and the short warm-up wait after power-on.

Best for
Headphone listeners with 4.4mm or 6.35mm cans who want tube warmth plus a preamp line out for desktop speakers.
Skip if
You want headphones and speakers playing together - the outputs follow a priority order and only one works at a time.

Why 3.6/5: The page gives a complete parameter list, both jack types, plug-in tubes and op-amps, and a 12V adapter in the box. Held back by only 200mW at 32Ω and an SNR of 80dB, a $10.00 premium for the walnut body, and outputs that play one at a time.

The Douk Audio P5 is a vacuum tube headphone amplifier that doubles as a stereo preamp, priced at $79.99. It targets desktop listeners who want analog warmth with modern convenience, and it comes in either a machined full-aluminum chassis or a retro solid walnut version.

Inside, each channel gets its own dedicated amplifier circuit - a dual-mono layout that the maker says improves stereo separation and reduces crosstalk compared with shared-path designs. The tube stage runs at 200V for rich, clean and warm analog sound. Headphones connect through either a 4.4mm balanced jack or a 6.35mm single-ended jack, and an impedance switch flips gain between 5dB and 15dB to suit headphones from 16 to 600 ohms. Note that the outputs follow a priority order - 4.4mm first, then 6.35mm, then RCA - so unused ports should be unplugged if you hear nothing.

Beyond headphones, the P5 routes its tube-processed signal through the RCA output to a desktop power amplifier or active speakers. The two NE5532 op-amps and two 6A2 vacuum tubes sit in pluggable sockets: the tubes can be replaced with 5654, 6*7N, 6AK5, EF95 or 403B types and the op-amps with common dual chips. A six-mode ambient LED system glows along with the music, and the warm-up window is adjustable from 10 to 30 seconds to extend tube life. Always power down and disconnect before swapping the op-amps or tubes, because high voltage is present inside.

How it compares

Among the tube amps here, the P5 is the least expensive with a 4.4mm balanced jack. Its page rates 200mW at 32Ω and 80mW at 300Ω and an SNR of 80dB. The Douk Audio U10 costs $49.99, uses 6A2 tubes too and lists 1100mW or more at 32Ω and an SNR of 110dB or better, but it has no balanced output, takes 3.5mm and RCA inputs and ships without a power adapter. The P5 adds a dual-mono layout, a gain switch, an RCA preamp output and a 12V adapter in the box. The P5 is $79.99 in its review, which is the Aluminum Alloy version; the Walnut Wood version is $89.99.

For balanced drive without tubes, the Douk Audio U5 costs $52.99 and lists 1400mW or more at 32Ω from XLR and 4.4mm outputs, with an XLR input only. The Douk Audio E2 at $219.99 is a higher-power tube option: its page lists 2W on high gain, XLR, 4.4mm and 6.35mm jacks and a VU meter. Who it suits: the P5 fits a listener who values tube rolling, a 4.4mm jack and a preamp output for speakers over raw power. The U10 and U5 suit those who need more drive per dollar; the E2 suits those who want more power from a tube design.

Shipping, returns and warranty

  • Shipping: Douk Audio's current shipping page says orders are generally processed no later than the next business day and arrive in 2-8 business days, with duties, taxes and customs fees included in the checkout price unless noted otherwise.
  • Older shipping terms are still online: airmail at 10-25 days for parcels under 2 kg, DHL, UPS or FedEx at 5-8 days above that, and a line saying the store is not responsible for import duties. Check the delivery estimate and any duties at checkout.
  • Returns: ask within 30 days of delivery and wait for approval before sending anything; an approved return has to ship within 7 days. Items need all packaging and accessories and no excessive wear, or the store can refuse them or refund part of the price. Refunds go to the original payment method after inspection.
  • Not refunded: original and expedited shipping, duties, taxes and customs charges, unless the law requires it or the store made the error. The return page does not say who pays return postage, and the older refund page excludes mistaken orders and change-of-mind returns from free after-sale service.
  • Warranty: 24 months from purchase for manufacturing defects, with free repair, a replacement unit and free shipping both ways for covered repairs. Drops, liquid, DIY repairs, lightning, extreme temperatures and misuse are excluded (partial fees may apply), and damage from weak packing on the way back may not be covered. The older refund page still says 1 year.
  • Seller: the site is run by Shenzhen Anba Technology Co., Ltd (Shenzhen, China) and HONGKONG LONGSHENG Import and Export Trading Co., Limited (Hong Kong); support is by email at [email protected]. These terms cover orders placed on doukaudio.com; other sellers apply their own.

For this product, the page lists shipping to US, UK, EU, AU and Other (a destination list, with no warehouses named) and shows Free Shipping, 2-8 Days Arrival, 30-Day Return and 2-Year Warranty badges near the price.

What we liked

  • Dual-mono design gives each channel its own amplifier circuit for better separation and less crosstalk
  • Both 4.4mm balanced and 6.35mm single-ended jacks, with a gain switch for 16-600 ohm headphones
  • Works as a tube preamp too - the RCA output feeds a power amp or active speakers
  • Replacable 6A2 tubes and plug-in NE5532 op-amps with no soldering required
  • Adjustable 10-30 second tube warm-up to extend tube life, plus six-mode ambient LED lighting

Worth noting

  • Only one output plays at a time: the 4.4mm jack outranks 6.35mm, which outranks RCA, so unused ports must be unplugged
  • A 10-30 second warm-up is required, with no audio during tube activation
  • Wood-grain finish varies between units, and the stock tubes and op-amps are starting points for rolling rather than the endgame

Questions before you buy

Which headphones can the P5 drive?

The impedance switch covers 16-600 ohms with gain of 5dB or 15dB, which the maker says suits studio headphones and audiophile setups.

Can it feed active speakers or a power amp?

Yes - the RCA output carries the tube-processed signal to a desktop power amplifier or active speakers.

Which tubes can replace the stock ones?

The default 6A2 tubes can be replaced by 5654, 6*7N, 6AK5, EF95 or 403B tubes.

What should I do before swapping tubes or op-amps?

Power off and disconnect the P5 from its power source first - high voltage is present inside the unit.

What we couldn’t verify

  • Price: $79.99 is the Aluminum Alloy option; the page opens on Walnut Wood at $89.99. The cheaper option swaps the solid walnut body for aluminum (420g against 310g), and the page lists the same size and electrical figures for both.
  • THD is printed as '>0.01%' (greater than), which reads like a typo for '<', and SNR is 80dB. Neither has test conditions, and the page gives no frequency response.
  • Power: 200mW at 32Ω and 80mW at 300Ω are the only rated figures. 'Rich, clean, and warm' sound and 'outperforms shared-path designs' are maker claims with no measurements behind them.
  • Supply: the Parameters say DC 9-15V at 1A or more (5.5 x 2.5mm) while the packing list shows a DC 12V adapter; the page gives no current rating or plug type for the adapter in each shipping region.
